CROSS-LINE BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1905.
Application filed April 13, 1905. Serial No. 255,468.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL STACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kokomo, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cross-Line Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cross-line buckles, and has for its object to produce a device of this character which will be extremely simple in construction and which can be very easily and quickly attached and detached.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the buckle in use. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is adetail perspective View showing the different parts. Fig. 4: is a longitudinal section showing the cross-line at tached to the buckle and the long line omitted.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The numeral 1 indicates the frame of the buckle, which, as shown in the drawings, comprises two side bars, the ends of which eX- tend up, as seen at 2, being connected by cross-bars 3. The plate 4 is used in connection with the above-mentioned frame 1 and has a slot 7 in one end thereof, through which the short rein 11 passes, said rein 11 being loopedabout a cross-bar 12 at one side of the slot 7. This plate A has upwardly and outwardly extending flanges 5, which engage with the sides of the frame 1 and also carries an u pwardly-projecting stud 6, which is adapted to engage the openings in the long strap 10. By reference to the drawings it will be seen that the inner and lower edges of the crossbars 3 are beveled, so that the strap can pass easily beneath said cross-bars.
The operation of the device is as follows: In the normal position the flanges 5 restupon the sides of the frame 1 between the upturned ends thereof. The long strap passes between the said plate and the cross-bars 3 and is held from longitudinal movement by engagement with the stud 6. To remove the buckle, it is simply necessary to pull the long strap so as to form a loop between the cross-bars to re move the plate 4: from its seat and turn it around, so that it can be withdrawn through the space between the sides of the frame. The operation of attaching it is the reverse of that just described.
From the foregoing description it will be readily understood that I have invented a cross-line buckle which is very simple and durable in construction and which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a nominal cost.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
In combination, a cross-line buckle comprising a frame embodying side bars extend ing upwardly at the ends thereof, cross-bars connecting the ends of the side bars, a short rein, a plate provided with a transverse slot in an end thereof, a cross-bar at one side of the slot, the short rein being attached to the cross-bar of the plate, said plate being received upon the side bars of the frame between the upwardly-extending ends thereof and prevented from longitudinal displacement by said ends, a stud projected upwardly from the plate, and a long strap passed through the frame beneath the cross-bars and above the plate aforesaid and having openings therein to receive the stud.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
