Beit known that I, Ronnrrr R. Drinriennn, a citizen of the 'United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State oil New York, have invented new and useful' Improvements in Toilet Articles, or' which the following is aspecilication.
The object of this present invention is to provide certain improvements i'n toilet articles whereby a standard shape of body may be combined. with various shapes of iframes.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in-the accompanying drawings, in which-h Figure l represents a hand-brush in back view. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal centralsection taken in the plane oi" the line A A of Fig. l. Fig. 2a is an enlarged detail section of the part shown at the top ot' Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken in the plane of the line B B ot' Fig. l. Fig. 4L represents detail longitudinal central sections through the back plate ot' the frame and the mat which is interposed between the brush-body and the peripheral frame, and Fig. is a back view of the brush with the handle and frame removed.
The brush-body is denoted by l, from the front face of which body the bristles 2 pro- The peripheral frame of the body is spaced from the periphery of the brush-body l, which frame comprises a lateral outer portion 3, projecting from the front and back langes 4L and 5. This peripheral frame may be made in various ornamental shapes, and bodies of the standard shape may be held therein as follows: A mat is interposed between the body l and the peripheral frame, which mat comprises an outer lateral portion 6 of such shape as to iit the inner wall of the lateral portion 3 ot' the peripheral frame, a portion 7, projecting inwardly from the lateral portion 6, an inner lateral portion 8, which lits the periphery of the brush-body l, and an inwardly-turned lip 9, which overlaps the iront face of the brush-body at its periphery.
The back frame of the toilet article is denoted by lO, and at its periphery it is provided with a stepped portion ll, arranged to lit within the peripheral frame between the back flange 5 and the inner wall of the lateral portion 3.
The space between the back of the brushbody l and the back plate of the frame may be lilled with cards 12, to hold the body pressed snugly against its spacing-mat.
The hollow handle is denoted by 13, and the free ends ot' the peripheral frame are extended into the handle and are secured t0- gether by a nut lll, which is engaged by an assembling-screw which enters the handle from the exterior at the end thereof.
It will be seen that the peripheral frame may be made of various shapes, and the peripheries of the spacing-mats may also be made of shapes to correspond with the peripheral frame, the brush-body at the same time being capable oi' being' produced in stock sizes and shapes. This obviates the necessity of providing a different-shaped body for every dit'- t'erent shape in the frame. Furthermore, by interposing a mat between the peripheral frame and the body the article itself may be produced .in larger sizes than heretofore without increasing thc size of the body-suela for instance, as the brush-body.
The back-plate ol the frame and the mat are spaced apart by reason or' the inner edge of the outer lateral portion 6 of the mat engaging the face of the back-plate at its periphery within the peripheral frame.
It is evident that other than brush-bodies may be used in connection with the ornamental frame herein represented. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the construction of a hand-brush; but
l. A toilet article comprising a back-plate, a peripheral frame, a handle, a body and a mat interposed between the body and peripheral frame.
2. A toilet article comprising a back-plate, a peripheral frame, a handle, a mat having its outer edge embraced by the peripheral frame and a body havingI its outer edge seated in the overlapping inner edge or' the mat.
3. A toilet article comprising a handle, a
peripheral frame having inwardly-projecting front and back iianges, a back-plate having its edge seated in the peripheral frame adjacent to the back llange, amat having its'outer edge seated within the peripheral frame adjacent to the front tlange and a body having its outer edge seated in the overlapping inner edge of the mat.
