Be it known that l, AUGUST DE Tum", a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing' in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in lnhalers, of which the 'following is a specification.
One object of myinvention is to provide an inhalcr with improved means for breaking an anesthetic containing and frangible capsule after the latter has been properly inserted in the inhaler, it being' further desired to provide means for properly directing and distributing' the liquid delivered from said capsule upon absorbent material suitably placed within the inhalcr. rl`hese objects lv attain as hereinafter set forth, reference being' had to4 the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved inhaler, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation showing' the interior construction of the inhalcr illustrated in Fig. l.
ln the above drawings, A is a metal tube made in two portions e and a at right angles to each other. To one end of the part c is connected a face-piece B, consisting of a pneumatic rubber pad and a supporting-cone therefor. The opposite end of the said part a is provided with a tube c, fitting within it and having a cap C, there being' one or more openings in said tube for regulating the supply of air.
Projecting into the tubular part a in the `line of the right-angled portion c/ isatubular guide a2, and there is in addition a tube d, carried by the tube c, which may in one position of this latter form a continuation of the guideway c2. The lower end of the tubular part u.' is provided with an enlarged neck a for the reception of an air-bag l), while there is within said portion c aremovablefranie d, formed of spirally-wound wire, upon which is carried a body of absorbent material d. such as cotton or gauze. Forming part of the frame Z is a removable cap ai, having an opening covered with a piece of gauze ai.

As will be understood by those skilled in the art, the amount of air entering the inhalcr is regulated by the operation of the cap U in the well-known manner.

The com bin-ation in an inhalcr of a tubular guideway. a piece having' its surface inclined to the line of said gnidr-nvay, and a stop adjacent to said surface, said parts being' arranged to engage and break the end of a material, with a stop adjacent to said piece placed to coact therewith to break the point of a frangible capsule forced into said guideway, substantially as described.
