HAROLD W. ANDERSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
JEWELERS DISPLAY-TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1905.
Application filed May 18, 1905. Serial No. 260,919.
T0 all wwm, it nur?! concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD W. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Jewelers Display-Trays, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in jewelers display-trays intended to be used in show-cases or the like to receive the different articles of jewelry and display them in an attractive manner and at the same time permit the removal from the show-case of a single article or of any one of the trays.
I have found that the display-bed of a jewelers show-case is rendered much more attractive if it appear to be formed of one continuous stretch of plush or the like provided with jewelry holding elevations or depressions than where the bed shows itself plainly to be formed of separate removable trays.
My object is to provide a construction of tray which when used in connection with others in a show-case, more especially to fill out the bottom of the same, will cause the displaysurface of the case to appear to be formed of one continuous stretch of plush or the like, the separate trays or tray-sections being readily removable from and replaceable in the case. I accomplish this object' by providing a construction of tray in which the plush or other covering extends over the edges of the trayframe or is iiush therewith, whereby the surfaces of the frame which would otherwise be exposed are concealed.
Referring` to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a broken plan view showing in full lines the whole of one tray and by dotted lines three contiguous trays in part, and Fig. 2 an enlarged broken sectional view taken at the line 2 in Fig. l and viewed in the direction of the arrow.
A denotes a tray of my improved construction, shown as being adapted to hold watches. The frame or body B of the tray is of wood, divided into compartments c, separated from each other by the partitions b. The outer walls c of the compartments are about one` half the thickness of the partitions. The top of the tray comprises interlitting removable blocks or sections of uniform size C, those shown being rectangular and each provided with a shallow pocket d of a shape to receive a particular article of jewelry, such as a watch. The sections are also each provided with a surrounding iiange e of about one-half the width of the partitions 5 and have downwardlyrounded edges. Each of the sections C ts into a compartment c at its lower portion and rests at its flange e upon the partitions and end walls of the tray. The sections C are provided with a covering f, of plush or other suitable attractive material, extending over their upper surfaces and beveled or rounded edges and preferably over the entire surfaces of the sections, as shown in Fig. 2. The sections, as shown, are also each provided with a cushion g, to which the preferably satin covering /i on the under side of the sections is attached. By thus providing the sections with the covering, each section closely contacting with the Vothers and completely covering the body or frame of the tray, no uncovered portion of the frame is exposed and the whole is given the appearance of a tufted bed, on which the articles of jewelry rest or to which they are attached. Likewise, by placing a number of trays in a display-case side by side it may be made to appear that the bottom of the case is one continuous bed formed of plush or other covering material, padded and blocked out to take away any appearance of plainness.
By forming the exposed part of the tray of removable blocks or sections any one of the latter may be removed from the case without removing the whole tray.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A jewelers display-tray having a frame portion and a top formed of sections each provided on its upper surface and edges with an ornamental covering, and adapted to iill out said tray and extend over the edges thereof whereby no portion of the frame is exposed to View, for the purpose set forth.
2. A jewelers display-tray having a frame portion divided into compartments, and a top formed of separate intertting uniform-sized sections each provided on its upper surface and edges with ornamental covering, and adapted to fit into said compartments and hide the tray-frame whereby no portion of the frame is exposed to view, for the purpose set forth.
IOO
3. A jewelers display-tray having` zi tramo portion provided with compartments sopa.- rzitod from @zich other hy partitions and zitop composed of intorh'tting` Sections oi uniform Size, @zich provided with surrounding hinges and a Covoring'of plush, ortho like, said sootions iitting into said compartments to project :it their hangen over said partitions whorehy no portion o1 tho frfuno is oXpoSod to View, 'for the purpose sot vIi'orth.
