EU'NTTED sTaTns HELENA O. BLEEOKER, OF PUEBLO, COLORADO.
HOLDER FOR LAMP AND LANTERN BURNERS- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1905.
Application filed June 26,1905- erial No. 267,098
To (Ml whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELENA O. BLEEOKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pueblo, in the county of Pueblo and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Lamp and Lantern Burners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for lamp and lantern burners; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be detachably secured upon the neck of a lamp or lantern for the purpose of supporting its burner while its oil-reservoir is being filled, so that no oil will drip from the burner or the wick and soil or injure objects near by.
The above and other objects, which will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, are accomplished by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved holder for the burners of lamps and lanterns, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same, showing it in use.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes my improved holder or support, which is adapted to be removably engaged with the necks of lamps or lanterns, and which consists of a bracket or support 2, adapted to receive the burner, and a spring-clamp 3'. As shown in the drawings, I preferably construct the device of a single piece of resilient metal rod or wire by bending the same at its center, as shown at 4, to form two substantially parallel arms 5. These arms 5 are bent at right angles, as shown at 6, at points adjacent to the bend 4, so as to form a stop 7 upon the outer end of the bracket portion of the holder, which portion is formed by the arms 5 and extends from the bends 6 to right-angular bends 8, formed at points substantially midway the lengths of said arms. Adjacent to the bends 8 are similar right-angular bends 9, which form at the free ends of the arms 5 two spring-jaws 10, which are offset from the bracket portion of the device by the portions llintermediate the bends 8 and 9. The jaws 10 are curved slightly in reverse directions, as shown, and have their extreme ends slightly outturned, as shown at 12, to permit them to be readily engaged with the neck of a lamp or lantern. To render the arms 5 and their jaws 10 more resilient, so as to cause the latter to more firmly engage the neck of a lamp or lantern, I provide a coil-spring 13 between the portions 11 of the device. This spring is formed at its ends with eyes which are hooked around said portions 11, as clearly shown in the drawings.
The use of the invention will be readily understood upon reference to Fig. 2 of the drawings, in which it is shown applied to a lamp, the jaws 10 engaging the neck thereof and the bracket portion supporting the burner, so that the Wick of the. latter hangs down into the oil-reservoir of the lamp which is to be filled. It will be seen that when the burner is supported in this manner it will be impossible to waste any oil, and that there will be no danger of the oil dropping from the burner or the wick of the lamp and falling upon the table or other support upon which the lamp rests or upon the floor. The device may be quickly applied to or removed from the lamp and forms a convenient support for the burner when the lamp is being filled.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described burner-liolder,formed from a single piece of spring-wire, and consisting of the outturned spring-jaws 10, the right-angular bends 9 forming the offset portions 11, the spiral spring 13 connecting said portions 11, the parallel arms 5, and the upwardly-bent stop 7 essentially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HELENA O. BLEEOKER. Witnesses:
LUOIUS B. GIBsoN, PARENTHA MOOLEUR.
