BOTTLE-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
Application filed May 5,1905. Serial No. 259,078.
To all whom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, HENRY F. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decorah, in the county of VVinneshiek and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Bottle-Protector, of which the followingisaspecification.
This invention relates to bottle-protectors, and more particularly one adapted for use in connection with nursing-bottles.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable, and thoroughly eflicient form of bottle protector which when positioned upon a bottle will render it non-breakable, will support it in upright position, will permit it to be supported upon a lamp-chimney or other heating medium for the purpose of warming its contents, and which in addition shall have means combined with it for securely fastening the nipple against accidental separation.
A further object is to provide a holder having the characteristics named which shall be sanitary in character and which may readily be positioned or removed when desired.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of abottle-protector, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, the figure is a view in perspective exhibiting a nursing-bottle inclosed or incased by a protector embodying the features of the present invention.
.Referring to the drawing, B designates a nursing-bottle of the usual or any preferred construction, and N a nipple applied thereto in the ordinary manner.
Disposed on the bottle is the holder forming the subject-matter of the present invention, the same consisting of a length or lengths of coiled springs 1, which are interlocked, as at 2, 3, 1, 5, 6,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13,14,and 15, to present a net-like structure which will entirely surround the bottle, but will leave open spaces, due to the fact that. the interlocking forms approximately a plurality of rings or annuli, through which the bottle will be exposed to view, and these open spaces or rings will form grasping-points by which the bottle may be securely held by the user. Only the annuli on one side and a part of two edges of the bottle are shown, it being understood that these are duplicated on the other side of the bottle, and as this will be readily under stood further illustration is deemed unnecessary. As the coils will be made of resilient wire, they will grasp the bottle with sufficient firmness to hold it against accidental separation; but as the coils may readily be stretched this will facilitate the removal of the protector or cover when desired. The coils around the lower edge or bottom of the bottle serve as rests to support the bottle in an upright position, and where the coils meet at the center of each side a rest is presented which will permit the bottle to be disposed in a horizontal position upon a lamp-chimney for the purpose of heating the contents.
Combined with two of the upper annuli is a nipple-holder 16, the same being constructed of a length of wire bent to form two arms 17 which are secured by terminal eyes 18 in two of the upper coils of the cover, the loop portion of the holder being bent at an angle to the arms and formed into a yoke 18, which will surround the nipple and hold it positively combined with the bottle.
The holder herein described is simple in construction, thoroughly eflicient and durable in use, will be sanitary, and will positively prevent breakage of the bottle should the same fall from the hands of the infant, inasmuch as all the body portions thereof are thoroughly protected by the outstanding coils forming the protector.
Having thus-described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A bottle protector embodying interlocked coiled springs or protecting elements assembled in such manner as to leave open spaces to permit a firm hold being taken upon the bottle and for the passage of heat to the contents thereof.
' 2. The combination with a bottle-holder comprising interlocked coiled springs, of a nipple-holder.
