- This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in egg-boilers of that class composed of wire and adapted tp receive and hold the eggs and to be placed within a kettle or other receptacle containing the Water in which they are to be boiled; and the present invention has for its objects, among others, to provide an improved device of this character which shall be simple and cheap, yet strong, and which shall be capable of su pporting the eggs out of contact with each other and which will remain in its upright position regardless of the disposition of the eggs.

EGG-*BOILEFL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,936, dated September 3, 1901.

A To all whom t may concern,.-
Beit known that I,'FRANK SOADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pekin, in the county of Tazewell and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Egg-Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. l
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in egg-boilers of that class composed of wire and adapted tp receive and hold the eggs and to be placed within a kettle or other receptacle containing the Water in which they are to be boiled; and the present invention has for its objects, among others, to provide an improved device of this character which shall be simple and cheap, yet strong, and which shall be capable of su pporting the eggs out of contact with each other and which will remain in its upright position regardless of the disposition of the eggs.
I provide the body portion of a single piece of wire bent to form an annular base braced or strengthened by a diametrically-disposed portion of the wire, one end of which is soldered to the ring or base and the other end extending upward from practically the center of the ring or base and terminating in a ring or loop by which the device may be readily handled or which may be employed to receive a hook by which the holder or boiler may be lifted out of the water. The egg-supporting portions are secured to the vertical portion and are so arranged that the loops of one ring will be out of alinement or alternating with those of the next adjacent ring.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved egg boiler or holder. Fig. 2 is a top plan thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section showing in top plan one ofthe looped Wires before the same is soldered to the vertical portion of the device.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
In carrying out myinvention I take a piece of Wire of suitable size and shape it to form a base portion a., preferably substantially circular in outline, as seen best in Fig. 2, extending one end of the wire diametrically across the said base, as seen at b, and securing the end thereof to the ring, as at c, by solder or otherwise, and the other end of the wire is extended parallel with this portion b, as seen at d, for practically one-half its length, and at the center of the base this portion is extended vertically to form the central shaft or support A,which may be of any desired height and which terminates at its upper end in a loop or ring e, by which the device may be readily handled, or it may receive a hook, as indicated in Fig. l, by which the device may be placed in or taken from the water. This hook is indicated at B. The horizontal portions b and d of the base are preferably sol dered together to give rigidity thereto.
Upon the portion A are supported any desired number of egg-supporting portions. In this instance I have shown two sets at differentheights. Theyareformedinthismanner: I take a piece of Wire C (seen best in Fig. 3) and bend it at its center to form the crimp or bend f to receive one side of the wire A, and then after extending the wire a sucient distance from opposite sides of this bend to form the horizontal portions g each end is bent to form the circular loop D, and then the ends of the wire are brought toward each other and parallel with the portions g, as seen best in Fig. 3 at h, and the extreme ends bent slightly outward, as seen at t', to receive the wire A, and then another Wire, similar thereto, is placed about the portion A, with its horizontal portions at right angles to those of the one just described, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, and then the portions lembracing the wire A are soldered or otherwise affixed thereto, and thus a rigid support is formed that is not affected by the Weight of the eggs. As seen in Fig. 2, the loops D'of the lowerrnost set are so disposed upon opposite sides of the horizontal brace portions b and d that the eggs when placed in the said loops Will be clear of the said horizontal portions and all danger of breakage thus avoided.

Y t Y What I claim as new is- As an improved article of manufacture the vherein-described egg-boiler the same consist- I ing of a body portion of a single piece of Wire On the wire A, above the set of loops just bent to form a-base with one end of the wire extended diametrically across the same and secured to` the base and the other end extended half-Way across the diameter of the base and secured to the diametric portion and from the center of the base extended upwardly and terminating in a loop, and a series of sets of egg-supporting loops supported on the vertical portion of the body with the loops of one set alternating with those of the next adjacent set, all substantially as shown and described.
