Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
Application filed October 1, 1904:. Serial No. 226,801.
To @ZZ whom t may concer-r1,.-
Be it known that I, AN'roN STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Mateo, in the county of San Mateo and State of Oalifornia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys,of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to toys, and has for its object to produce a simple inexpensive device of this character which in practice will afford considerable harmless amusement.
To this end the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front side elevation of the toy embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a reverse side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, l designates a handle or shaft having at its forward end a flattened portion 2, provided with a longitudinal slot 8, there being pivoted to the forward end of the shaft, by means of a' rivet or other axle 4, a wheel 5, the front face of which is separated into three sections 6, contrastingly colored, as indicated in Fig. l.
, Upon each of the sections 6 of the wheel, adjacent the periphery of the latter, there is stamped, printed` or otherwise indicated thev representation of a mouse or other animal 7, which as the wheel rotates during travel over the ground will have the appearance of running.
Stamped or otherwise formed from meta or other appropriate material and preferably having the general contour vof a cat is a movable member or figure 8, connected adjacent its rear end with the handle 1 by means of a rivet or other fastening device 9, disposed for reciprocation in the slot 3, the member 8 being eccentrically pivoted adjacent its forward end to the wheel 5 by means of a fastening member or rivet lO, which further serves as the pivotal axis for a member or iigure l1, formed from sheet metal or other material and preferably having the contour of a brownie. The rivet 9 preferably engages one of the hind paws of the animal, while the rivet 10 engages one of its fore paws and is further engaged with the figure 11, adjacent its upper end or head, whereby the same will hang at all times in an upright position.
In practice when the handle l is grasped and the device moved over the ground, traveling upon the wheel 5, the latter will be caused to rotate, thus giving the animals 7 the appearance of running and imparting to the member or animal 8 a" reciprocatory movement, as though in pursuit of the mice, while the figure 11 will oscillate and also appear to be pursuing the animals 7 Owing to the sections 6 being contrastingly colored, the wheel will present a highly-attractive appearance during rotation in its travel over the ground.
From the foregoing it is apparent that I produce a simple inexpensive device which will in practice be very attractive and at the same time afford considerable harmless amusement. In attaining these ends it is to be understood that minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new isl. Ina toy, a handle, a wheel pivotally connected with the handle, said wheel having figures represented thereon, and a gure slidingly connected with the handle and eccentrically pivoted directly to the wheel.
2. In a toy,a handle,a wheel pivoted thereto, said wheel having figures represented thereon, a figure slidably engaged with the handle and eccentrically pivoted directly to the wheel, and a second gure pivoted on said wheel for movement therewith.
3. In a toy, a handle, a wheel pivotally connected with the handle and having contrastingly-colored sections each bearing a representation of an animal, and a figure slidably connected with the handle and eccentrically pivoted directly to the wheel and adapted in operation to have the appearance of pursuing the animals represented on the wheel.
4. In a toy, a handle, a wheel pivotally connected therewith and having animals represented thereon, and a pair of figures eccentrically pivoted on a common pintle directly to the wheel, one of said figures being slidably engaged with the handle.
In testimony whereofI affix my signatu re in presence of two witnesses.
ANTON STEIN.
