EXTENSION-TABLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 7,997, dated March 25, 1851.

declare that the following is a full and eXact description thereof.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to de scribe the construction and operation of the same. l l l In the i accompanying drawings, which form a pa-rt of this specification,`.`Figure l is a perspective view. A7 center pillar; B, top; C, side rails; D, plank fastened to the top of A and having guides Q upon which guides the rails C can move up and down. E, center rails fastened to D and having tongues to fit in the grooves of F, F,rail connected to E E by tongues and grooves, `and to the cross bars Gr by a vbolt being passed up through G, the head of which bolt works in a slot in the underside of F. I, folding rails constructed and i arranged in such a manner that the joints between the legs J and the bearing on the center or plank D are in line, rendering the rails much stiffer than they would be if out of line; andthe rails are also so arranged that the legs J will fold into the` center A when the table` is closed, and swingout as near the outside as desirable when the table is extended, thereby rendering the table firmer than it would be with the legs at or near the center. Dotted lines K lever connected to a rock shaft, the ends of which shaft are tted in the rails C.

Upon the opposite side of the shaft are arms L having projections at the ends, which projections bear upon plates; the plates are fastened to D. The object of this arrangement is to raise the top B thereby making a space between B and-ID for the reception of the loose leaves, when the table is closed the leavesbeing slid in on top of the folding rails I, N, lever the fulcrum of which is on D. `O, connecting rod from N to P. P, catch which hooks in the opposite part of the center A and holds the table together when closed. By pressing upon the lever N so as to throw the hook P down it is disengaged from the opposite side.

The leavesto fill up the space between the ends B are made in the usual manner.
