UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LETTER-FILE,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
Application filed March 31,1905. Serial No. 253,014.
To all whomit may concern: Be it known that I, CARL ALoYs GRUNE- WALD, a subject'of the German Emperor, residing at Hanover, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Letter-Files, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a file by which papers may be secured in an-eflectual manner without being perforated and from which they may also be readily withdrawn.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved file, showing it closed. Fig. 2 is a similar View, partly broken away, showing it open. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the parts in a different position; and Fig. 4 is a cross-section on line A B of Fig. 2.
The numeral 6 indicates the cover of the file, to which is secured a longitudinal folded strip 2, that constitutes a pocket. The upper flap of this strip is provided with a clamp-bar 1 and a pair of guide-rails 5.
engaged by a pair of slides 4:, attached to the upper ends of flexible strips or bands 3, that encompass the ends of pocket 2 and are attached at their lower ends to cover 6.
In use the slides 4' are pushed outward, Fig.
The latter are i 3, the papers are introduced into open pocket 2, and then the slides are pushed inward to close the pocket and confine the papers in position, Fig. 2. The frictional engagement between the slides 4 and rails 5 should be such that the slides will be retained in any position to which they have been set.
Having now fully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A file composed of a cover, a strip secured thereto, a guide on the strip, slides engaging the guide, and means for connecting the1 slides to the cover, substantially as specifie v 2. A file composed of a cover, a pocket secured thereto, a clamping-bar and guide-rails on the pocket, flexible bands embracing the ends of the pocket, and slides secured to said bands and engaging the guide-rails, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at Dusseldorf, Germany, this 16th day ofMarch, 1905.
CARL ALOYS GRUNEW'ALD.
