Be it known that I, JUSTIN W. HEILBRoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county ,of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and use-ful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following isa specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Myinvention relates to Suspenders, braces, and the like, and more particularly to means for adjusting the lengths of the front end portions or' the webs or straps of devices of this class from which the attaching devices by -which connection is made with the trousers and undergarments are suspended; and the object of the invention is to provideimproved means for accomplishing the said adjustment and also for suspending the trousers and undergarments or for attaching the devices by which the trousers and undergarments or drawers are suspended.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designatedby suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the front end portion of one of the webs or straps of a pair of Suspenders provided with'my improvement; Fig. 2, a longitudinal central section thereof; and Fig. 3, a view similar to`Fig. 2, but showing a modification.

In the drawings forming part of this speciiication I have shown at a the front end portion of one of the webs or straps of a pair ot' Suspenders, and in the practice of my invention I provide a slide through which the web or strap a is passed in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1, and said slide in the form of construction shown consists simply of a link or loop the outer side of which is provided with a clamp Z22, similar to the clamps of other devices of this class, said clamp being provided with a projecting tongue portion b3 and with backwardly-directed teeth at b4, and the tongue portion b3 of the clamp b2 is prefer- I also provide in the form of construction shown in Figs. l and 2 a supplemental slide c, through which the Web or strap a is also passed and which in the form of con-struction shown consists of an oblonglink, and after passing the web or strap through the supplemental slide c the end thereof is carried backwardly and upwardly and again passed through the slide 7), as shown at b, and the free end a2 of the web or strap a vis suspended from the slide I) and is provided drawers at the front thereof and to support the s ame. rI he supplemental slide c is also provided with a tab-attaching device e, having a loop e2, through which is passed a trousers-suspending strap or similar device f, and

It willtherefore be seen that with this construction I provide a simple and convenient means for adjusting the position of both of the suspending-device attachments or holders (Z2 and f, and it will also be apparent that the suspending device or holder Z2 may or may not be employed or used, according to the desire of the party wearing the Suspenders.

In the moditicationshown in Fig. 3 the supplemental slide c is provided with a backwardly directed supplemental loop shaped member c2, through which the end t2 of the web or strap a is loosely passed, and this serves to hold the end a2 of the web or strap a in proper position at all times whether the suspending strap or support d2 be employed or not, and with both forms of construction it will be seen that the end d2 of the web or strap a is free, or, in other words, is in no way attached except when in use for the purpose o1 suspending the drawers. It will also be apparent that the slide or that portion ot' which over which the end a2 of the web or strap a is passed may be provided with a roller, if desired, as may also that portion of As thus con- IOO the slide c around which the loop-shaped portion t3 of the web or strap a passes; but these rollers are only for the purpose of reducing friction and may or Inay not be employed.

Although l have shown the front end portion of but one of the webs or straps of a pair of Suspenders, it will be apparent that both of said webs or straps are similarly formed or provided, and my invention is applicable to Suspenders of all kinds or classes regardless ot' the material of which they are composed, and itwill also be apparent that my improvement may be applied to belts, garters, and similar devices.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y l. In a device of the class described, a web or strap, a main slide mounted thereon and free to move thereon and provided with a front clamp, and a supplemental slide below the first-namedslide and through which said web or strap 1s passed, said supplemental slide being provided with a tab-attaching device, and the end portion of the web or strap after being passed through the supplemental slide being carried upwardly to the main slide and passed backwardly therethrough and suspended therefrom and provided with an attaching' device, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a device of the class described, a web or strap, a main slide mounted thereon and free to move thereon and provided with a front clamp, and a supplemental slide below the lirst-named slide and through which said web or strap is passed, said supplemental slide being provided with a tab-attaching device, and the end portion of the web or strap after being passed through the supplemental slide being carried upwardly to the main slide and passed backwardly therethrough and suspended therefrom and provided with an attachingdevice, said end portion of the web or strap being also again passed loosely through the supplemental slide, substantially as shown and described.
