JOSEPH NICHOLS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CORNER-PIECE FURNITURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1905.
Application filed March 20, 1905. Serial No. 250,971.
To lt/Z whom it nmgl concern.-
Be it known that I, JosnPH NIoIIoLs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago,in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corner-Piece Furniture, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in corner-piece furniture-such as dressers, cabinets, bookcases, chiffonniers, and the like-the object being to provide, for example, a dresser adapted to fit in a corner and utilize all the space therein. This object is accomplished by means such as those indicated in the accompanying drawings, the principal features of the invention being a triangular-shaped casing containing one or more compartments.
In the accompanying drawings a dresser is illustrated, Figure 1 being a front view thereof, Fig. 2 being a vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, Figs. 3 and I being horizontal sections on the lines 3 3 and a at, respectively. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the drawer.
Referring specifically to the drawings, A indicates the case or body of the article. This is triangular in shape, having a front a and inclined sides a.
A indicates the uprights or standards of the frame joined to legs B. There is a rear leg B at the rear corner of the casing. The
posts A" support a mirror C above the main casing.
In the top of the casing is a compartment D, formed by the front and side walls and having a hinged top a, which can be opened when the mirror is swung back. This compartment will be found useful for containing collars, neckwear, and the like.
Below the compartment D is a triangular drawer E, having central guide-strips which fit upon a runner a" under the bottom of the drawer. The drawer slides on this runner, which allows it to be pulled out evenly and straight and also to be readily pushed in.
The number of compartments and drawers may be varied as desired without departing from the scope of the invention, and the article of furniture may be made in other forms than that of a dresser. The triangular shape utilizes all the space of the corner.
\VhatIclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A dresser comprising a triangular casing having upwardly-projecting posts, at the front corners, a triangular drawer in the casing, having guides thereunder to prevent lateral movement, a compartment in the upper part of the casing, having an openable top, and a mirror hung between the posts.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH NICHOLS.
