' NURSERY-SEATS FOR CHILDREN.
. Specification Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1, 1905.
Application filed April 17, 1905. Serial No. 255,985.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it'known that I, MARTHA WOLFF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Nursery-Seats for Children, of which the following, when taken in connection with the drawings accompanying and forming a part hereof, is a full and complete description suiicient to enable those skilled in the art to which it pertains to understand, make, and use the same.
The object of this invention is to obtain a seat which may be placed on an ordinary toiletseat and secured thereto or upon any other suitable object for the use of the small child or baby.
A `further object of the invention is to obtain a seat of the kind described which may be folded and placed to one side when not in use.
v A further object of the invention is to obtain a seat of the kind named whereof'the table in front of the child may be adjusted and a device which will be presentable in appearance, `of small cost, and not liable to get out of order.
In the drawings referred to, Figure l is a side elevation of -a folding seat vembodying this invention, the apparatus being open ready foruse. Fig. V2 is a front elevation of a seat embodying this invention placed on a toiletseat and open ready for use. Fig. 3 is a plan of a seat embodying this invention open for use; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the seat embodying this invention closed-that is, folded to be placed to one sideor for shipping purposes.
A reference-letter applied to designate a given part is used to indicate such part throughout the several figures of the drawings wherever the same appears. y
A is a seat provided withthe hole a therethrough and with the cleat a secured thereto on the upper side thereof at the back.
B is the back-support to the seat A and is attached thereto by hinges b b. Hinges b are secured to the transversed cleat a and to the back-support B in such manner that the ,back-support may be turned down onto the seatAin front of the transversed cleat a, with suflicient space between such back and the seatto permit the sides D D to be folded down into actual contact with the seat. (See Fig. 4).
cured to the seat A by hinges d 0l. The sides The sides D D are respectively se- D D do not necessarily extend the entire depth of the seat A, the principal purpose of such sides being to support the forward ends of thev arms E when the device is set up ready for use, as is shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3 of.
G is a table secured adjacent to one end of the arms E E t0 such arms.
H H are pins on the lower sides of arms E E, and I I are holes in the Atop rail of the sides D y D, respectively. The pins H H fit into any one of the holes I when the several parts ,of the device are in position for use, the slot e permitting the arm E to be moved in or out-that is, longitudinally-so as to 0btain an adjusting position of the table Gr relative to back-support B. When such adjustment of table Gr is obtained and the pin H is.
in the proper one of the holes I I, the bolt F may be' tightened when the head thereof is made sufficiently large to permit it to be turned by hand, as hereinbefore suggested.
J J are hooks which are rotatable and longitudinally movable in seat A.
X is an ordinary toilet-seat, and Y is the bowl thereof. (See Fig. 2.)
When the folding seat embodying this invention is to be used, the back-support B is turned into substantially the position thereof which is illustrated in Figs. l, 2, and 3 of the drawings, the sides D D are turned up into a substantially perpendicular position, and the arms E E are turned down on top of the sides D D, respectively, with the pins H H in determined ones of the holes I I. The hooks J J are turned and slidinto place to hold the seat firmly to the toilet-seat on which the device is placed.
A child may be placed in the seat and held therein by the table G in the ordinary way of holding children in chairs provided with a like table.
When the seat embodying this invention is not in use, the bolts F F are loosened, arms E E raised, sides D D turned down into a plane parallel with the plane of seat A, the back-support B is turned down over the sides D D, and the arms E E are slid so that the table E comes over the back-support B and in a plane substantially parallel therewith. Bolts F F may, if desired, be again tightened.
rIhe several parts when in the position lastabove described are in substantially the position illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
The hooks J J when slid out of engagement with the toilet-seat X may be turned into substantially the position which is illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a folding seat for children, the combination. of a toilet-seat, means to fasten the seat to a larger toilet-seat, sides and a back hinged to the first-named toilet-seat, to fold down thereinto, arms pivotally attached to the back, such arms engageable with the sides, and means to latch the arms and the sides together; substantially as described.
2. In a folding seat, the combination of a horizontal board provided with an aperture therethrough, sides pivotally attached to the board, a back-cleat secured to the board and a back-support hinged to the cleat provided with a slot therein adjacent to one end thereof, bolts passing through the slot and into the back-support, a table attached to the end of the arms opposite to the slots therein, and means to latch the arms and the sides together; substantially as described.
3. The combination of a toilet-seat provided `with an aperture therethrough, sides pivotally attached to the seat, a transverse cleat secured to the seat at the back thereof, a backsupport hinged to the cleat, arms provided with slots at one end thereof, bolts passing through the slots and into the back-support, a table attached to the end of the arms opposite to the slots therein, such arms arranged to rest on the top of the sides when such sides are in a perpendicular position, and a connection between the respective arms and the sides on which they respectively rest; suhstantially as described.
4. The combination of a toilet-seat provided with an aperture therethrough, sides hinged to the seat, a cleat transversely attached to the back of the seat, a back-support hinged to the cleat, arms pivotally secured to the sides of the back-support and arranged to rest on the upper edge of the sides, and a connection between the arms and the sides, respectively; substantially as described.
