DEVICE FOR ATTACHING A CHILDS NURSERY. TOILET-SEAT '10- THE SEAT OF AN QRIDINARY TQILET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar, 11, 191%.
Application filed March 1, 1917. Serial No. 151,851.
To all whom it may concern:
Know all men by these presents that I,
of the United States, residing in the city of Vancouver, county of Clarke, and State of Washington therein, have invented certain useful and new Improvements and Devices for Attaching Childrens Nursery Toilet-Seats to the Seats of Ordinary Toilets, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements and devices for attaching quickly and easily a substantial childs nursery toilet seat to the seat of an ordinary toilet in such a way that it may be easily detached and used repeatedly. My invention is adapted to other uses, but particularly in connection with attaching a childs nursery toilet seat to the seat of an ordinary toilet in such a way as to hold it firmly and securely in position, so that it will not tip over, slide oii', or come loose, until the operator desires to have it removed, when the necessity for its use no longer exists.
The object of this invention is to produce a device-0f this character which is simple .in construction, composed of few parts, not
likely to get out of order, and which can be easily, quickly and securely attached to the seat of any ordinary toilet for the use of "small children particularly, and which may be detached and removed quickly and easily when not required.
' lVith these and other objects in view, my invention consists of certain constructions, combinations, arrangements, parts, and the method, manner and means of attaching and securing the same, the preferred form of which will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawing and the invention particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
I will first describe the different parts or members of this device and to describe the methods of applying and using the same will take as an illustration a diagram of a childs nursery toilet seat and also the seat of an ordinary sanitary toilet. Referring now to the drawings hereto attached and made a part of this application, wherein there has been illustrated the preferred form and construction of my invention as it is reduced to practice, throughout the different views of which similar reference numerals designate similar parts Figure I is a front elevation of the said nursery toilet seat in position on the seat of an ordinary toilet, showing the hooks or clamps which are the subject of this invention engagedwith and in place on the toilet seat.
Fig. H is a side elevation of the said nursery toilet seat, showing one of the said books at the right side of the said nursery toilet seat, which is disengaged from the toilet seat on which it is intended to be used. Fig. 111 shows the upper or top side of the said nursery toilet seat setup and in' position, showing in dotted lines on either side the location and position of the hooks forwhich this patent is applied.
Fig. IV shows the nursery toilet seat in a collapsed form, with the hooks which are the subject of this application folded over as they may be folded when not in use.
For convenience in describing the application and use otmy invention, I will take for illustration a folding nursery seat which consists of a back member, 10, and two side members or arms, 12 and13, that may be collapsible by being attached to the back member with hinges 12 and 13' so that both of the outside members fold inward. The seat or bottom member, 11, of this nursery toilet seat is preferably made of a flat board,
and is provided with an opening of suitable bottom member, 11, is let down to a hori zontal position, the side members and hooks I are firmly locked in position, or when it is not used in a collapsible nursery toilet seat, they are attached to a nursery toilet seat that has solid sides and bottom, and either form of nursery toilet seat or chair may be set upon the opening of the toilet seat of the ordinary form so that the hooks in-line are practically parallel with the longest dimension of the opening ofthe toilet seat, then the nursery toilet seat is turned at right angles facing forward, so that the hooks engage the under side of the toilet seat, thereby holding it firmly in place.
These hooks or clamps which are the su-bject of this application are preferably made of mtal, with a straight shank extending upward on the outside of the side members of the toilet seat and are attached thereto by means ofscrews or nails, which are insert ed through the shanks of the hooks and into the side members, holding them firmly and permanently in place. These hooks then extend inward from their connection and downwardand then outward in such a way that when they are in position the hooks will catch toward the outward side of the side member rather than other direction.
In the diagrams above referred to, the back member of the toilet chair or nursery toilet seat is designated by 10, the side members are designated respectively by 12 and 13, the seat or bottom member designated by 11. The hooks which are the subject of this invention are designated as 16 and 17, and the toilet seat to which this nursery seat is to be attached is designated in cross section in Fig. 1 by 18 in dotted lines.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A removable nursery seat arranged for application to a toilet article having a fianged opening, comprising a back member and foldable bottom and side members having hinged connections with said back mem ber whereby as said bottom member is swung to open position it will force said hinged side members outwardly, means associated with said hinged bottom member to lock said side members in open position, and outwardly facing hooks carried by said hinged side members adapted to be urged into engagement with the flanged opening of the toilet article as said side members are swung outwardly.
2. A removable nursery seat for a toilet article having a flanged opening, comprising a back member and foldable bottom and side members having hinged connections with hinged along the lower edge thereof, and
side members hinged to each side of the back member adapted to inclose the bottom member when swung upwardly parallel to the back member, said bottom member having notches at its forward edge adapted to coact with said side members and urge the same outwardly as the bottom member is -moved to right angle position with respect to the back member, thereby to hold said side members against either inward oroutward movement with respect thereto, and hooks carried by one of said parts adapted to coact with the flanged opening of the toilet.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses, this Feb. 14,1917.
ARTHUR LAVERN ADEE.
