NECK YOKE ATTAOHMENT.

PATENT ()FFICE.
LOUIS T. GUCKER, OF MARCELINE, MISSOURI.
NECK-YOKE ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 794,618, dated July 11, 1905.
Application filed October 24, 1904. Serial No. 229,764.
To all whom it nuzy concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS T. GUOKER, a citizen of the United States. residing at Marceline, in the county of Linn and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to harness, and embodies an attaching device adapted to be applied to the ends of a neck-yoke for securing the breast-straps thereto.
The invention is designed for use on old or new yokes, and is especially advantageous for this reason, being also susceptible of attachment to yokes of different sizes. Further, the attaching device is constructed peculiarly with a view to securing same without likelihood that the fastenings used for this purpose will be brought into contact with the strap parts, and thus cause undue wear and tear thereon.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings.
WVhile the invention may be adapted to different forms and conditions by changes in the structure and minor details without departing from the spirit or essential features thereof, still the preferred embodiment thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the end portion of the neck-yoke, the invention being applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is adetail perspective view of the attaching device, which comprises the invention, alone. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the attachment.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The invention consists, essentially, of a curved or semicircular plate 1, adapted to be secured to a yoke 2, one plate being attached at each end of the yoke in the preferred use of the invention. The part 1 constitutes a wear-plate about which the breast-strap passes. and this plate is provided at both ends with curved flanges 3, said flanges projecting from the peripheral portion to the plate, as shown most clearly in the drawings. The portion of the breast-strap passing about the plate 1 is received between the end flanges 3 aforesaid and is prevented from displacement from the plate by said flanges, which form stops for this purpose. A cross-bar 4 connects the two flanges 3 at a point about intermediate the extremities of said flanges or centrally of the plate 1, and this bar is formed integral, with lugs 5 projecting from the flanges 3. The bar 4 is thus disposed slightly above the flanges 3, so that a strap passing around the plate 1 will not come into contact with the bar 4 under ordinary conditions of service, though said bar will effectively prevent detachment of the strap from the part 1 aforesaid. The bar 4 cannot thus wear upon the strap part cooperating with the plate 1, and this is desirable for obvious reasons.
The plate 1 is attached to the neck 2 by fastenings, such as screws or the like, and these screws pass through apertured lugs 7, projected from the plate 1, at the side edges thereof, said lugs extending from the outer sides of the flanges 3 and separated from the strap part engaging the plate 1 by said flanges. The securing means for the plate 1 is therefore exterior to the portion thereof in contact with the strap part, and this is advantageous, for the reason that the fastenings are not liable to create undue wear upon the straps or tear such parts should they become loosened.
The device, as hereinbefore set forth, with the exception of the fastening-screws 6 is of integral formation and may be readily cast in its manufacture. The structure of the attachment is such that it may be readily secured to dififerent sizes of yokes, the curved form of the plate 1 admitting of the above in a manner which will be readily comprehended.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is As an article of manufacture, an attachment of the class described comprising the curved plate 1, the flanges 3 projected from said plate,
the lugs 5 extending from the flanges 3, the In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in cross-121m coinecting said lugs 5, mad the appresence of two Witnesses. erture lugs projected from the si es of the plate at a point between the ends thereof and LOUIS (IUOKER' 5 extending from the outer sides of the flanges Witnesses:
3, the parts aforesaid being all of integral eon- NOBLE H. ROE, struction. BERNARD J. GEARY.
