TO WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM Rnson, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Stove-Doors; andI hereby declare the following to be a full, elear, and exact description of the' same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
My improvement consists in providing a stove-door with an iron knob, coated with vitreous enamclfand is represented in the accompanying drawing by a. horizontal section through an oven-door in the plane of the handle.
In the present illustration, the head A of the knob or handle is of castiron, and is furnished with n shank, B, of wrought iron, cast within it, and which, being riveted on the rear side of the door, secures the handle thereto; but the shank may be screwed into a nut on'the back 0? the door, or into the door itself, and may, if preferred, be of one casting withthe head.
The enamel-may be applied in the customary way of applying vitreous coatings to metallidsurfaces, and serves the purpose of protecting said surface from dirt and oxidation, and is also useful by interposing, between the metal and the hand of the operator, a comparatively non-conducting substance, so as to make the knob more easily handled.
I claim herein as a new article of manufacture- A stove-door having an onamelled iron knob or handle, for the purpose set forth.
