Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
L. B. MYERs, or ELMonE, onto.
IIVIPROVED FASTENING FOR KNOBS FOR FURNITURE. y
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,250, dated October 30, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. B. MYERS, of Elmore, Ottawa county, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Furniture- Knobs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same, taken in 'the line y y, Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a bottom view, showing the Inode of fastening with l one screw and pins.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Furniture-knobs as commonly fastened to drawers and doors by means of a single screw of wood or metal, or with glue, are very apt to wear loose by use and come off, frequently occasioning much trouble and inconvenience, besides distgurin g the furniture.
The design of this invention is to meet this difficulty by providing such afa-stenin g for the knobs that they will not work loose or come off from use, but remain firm on the furniture permanently.
The principle of the fastening is very simple,
` and may be varied in its mode ot' application.
It consists in applying two or more points of bearing against a side movement of the knob instead of one, which has a leverage against it that often works the knob loose.
In Fig. 2, A represents the knob, in central vertical section, fastened to a drawer, a, by one screw, b, in the center, penetratin g through one side of a drawer up into the body of the knob in the same manner, and also two pins, c c, or. sharp-pointed spurs, which are set into the knob outside of its center, so as to project a little, and, when the central screw, b, is screwed up tight, to penetrate the wood of the drawer in the manner represented.
By this plan of fastening the knob will be held firmly to the furniture, and not liable to work loose or come off from use.
Havin g described my invention and its mode of application, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Fastening furniture-knobs to drawers or doors by means of two pins and a central screw, substantially as andvfor the purposes herein specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 16th day of July, 1866.
