Description

PATENTED JULY 4, 1905.
' W. KERNEY.
BELT FOR HOLDING HORSESHOE NAILS OR THE LIKE.
NITED STATES Patented July 4, 1905.
PATENT WILLIAM KERNEY, OF MOROCCO, INDIANA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 793,726, dated July 4, 1905.
7 Application filed July 17, 1903. Serial No. 166,044.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it .known that I, WILLIAM KERNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morocco, in the county of Newton, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Belt for Holding Horseshoe-Nails or the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to belts, and more especially to that class of belts adapted to hold articles such as nails and the like.
This invention is designed, primarily, for the use of blacksmiths, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby horseshoe-nails are carried by the belt convenient for extraction and handling.
It is also an object of this invention to produce a device of the character described which will prove simple in construction, eflicient in practice, and economical to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accom anying drawings, forming part of this specification, where in like characters denote like and corresponding parts in both views, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a belt embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a fragment thereof.
In the drawings, A denotes the body of the belt, which has its inner or contacting surface beveled transversely, so that when the belt is applied the outer surface is on an incline. This body B is of leather or any other suitable material.
Secured to the outer surface of the body B is a facing or cover A of any preferred or or dinary material, and secured thereto along its lower portion is a non-elastic strip E, divided by suitable stitching into a series of compartments. Above the strip E and near the top of the facing A is a second strip D of elastic material, which is also divided into compartments by suitable stitching. It is to be noticed that the corn artments of the strip D are in staggered re ation to the compartments of the strip E. By this arrangement the nails or other articles are held by the strips on a slant toward the graspinghand of the operator or smith--a position which greatly facilitates the extraction of the article. The non-elastic strip E acts as a guard for the lower end or point of the nails or articles C, while the strip D is the one which holds the articles in place.
Suitable straps S are secured to the ends of the belt, so that the said belt may be conveniently attached to the waist of the operator or smith.
The construction, operation, and advantages will, it is thought, be fully understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that various changes may be resorted to in the proportions and details of construction for successfully carrying the invention into practice without departing from the scope thereof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, a belt having a surface beveled longitudinally, and article-holding means carried by the belt.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a belt having its contacting surface beveled longitudinally, and article-holding. means carried by the opposite surface.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a belt, strips carried by the belt, one of said strips being elastic, and said strips being divided into compartments.
4:. As a new article of manufacture, a belt and strips carried by the belt, said strips being divided into compartments, the compartments of one strip being in staggered relation to the compartments of the next succeeding strip.
5. As a new article of manufacture, a belt, a non-elastic strip carried by the belt, and an elastic strip carried by the belt above the non-elastic strip, both of said strips being divided into compartments.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WVILLIAM KERNEY.
