FRANK IV. MILLER, OF W OOSTER, OHIO.
DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 793,386, dated June 27, 1905.
Application filed June 23, 1903. Serial No. 162,740.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK W. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVooster, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in barn-door hangers; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
One object of my invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the link which forms the pivotal or hinged connection between the door-strapand the supportingwheel housing.
A further object of my invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the doorstrap.
A further object of my invention is to combine with the hook-piece of the wheel-housing a link having a hinge-bar engaged by the said hook-piece and a door-strap having intermediate portions which are recessed on the upper side of the base-bar of the link and bear under the hook-piece to retain the latter against casual disengagement from the link-bar and to also retain the door-strap in place on the link.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a barn-door. hanger embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a hori- Zontal sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section view of the same, taken on the plane indicated by the line b b of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on the plane indi: cated by the line 0 c of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the link.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a link 1, which comprises a base-bar 2, Hat on its lower side to bear on the upper edge of the door, end pieces 3, and a hinge-bar 4, which connects the said end pieces and is disposed above the base-bar 1. Said end pieces form shoulders 5 at the ends of the hinge-bar and are undercut on their inner sides to form recesses 6, the base-bar being recessed transversely on its upper side, as at 7 said recesses 7 communicating with and merging in the recesses 6. The sides of the central portion of the base-bar are recessed, as at 8, and on the upper side of the base-bar is a longitudinallydisposed rib 9, which extends between the recesses 7.
The door-strap 10 is U-shaped. Its central or connecting portion 11 is adapted to bear against one side of a door, and the arms of the strap are bent at right angles to form the horizontally and transversely disposed portions 12, which engage and fit in the recesses 6 7 of the end pieces and base-bar of the link, the extremities of the arms being turned downwardly, as at 13, to bear against the side of the door opposite the central portion 11.
The housing 14, in which is mounted the supporting wheel or roller 15, that operates 011 the track-rail, (not shown,) is provided at its lower side with a hook portion 16, which engages the hinge-bar 5, and thereby a pivotal or hinge connection is eifected between the wheel-housing and the link. The under side of the hook portion 16 of the wheel-housing bears on the upper sides of the cross portions 12 of the door-strap, and thereby the said hook portion of the wheel-housing is prevented from becoming casually disengaged from the hinge-bar of the link.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
1. In a door-hanger, a link for the purpose set forth, comprising a base-bar, end pieces, and a hinge-bar connecting the endpieces and above the base-bar, the latter having transverse notches on its upper side, and the end pieces being undercut on their inner sides to form notches 6 which communicate with said notches 7, substantially as described.
2. In a barn-door hanger, the combination of a link comprising a base-bar, end pieces,
and a hinge-bar, and provided With transverse my hand in the presence of two subscribing notches; a door-strap having cross portions witnesses. in said notches, and a wheel-housing having a FRANK 7 MILLER hook portion pivotally engaging the hinge- 5 bar and bearing on the cross portions of the i/Vitnesses:
door-strap, substantially as described. BURT A. MILLER, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set CHAS. M. BALL.
