FRANK IV. MILLER, OF I/VOOSTER, OHIO.
DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 775,223, dated November 1'5, 1904. Application filed June 23, 1903. Serial No. 162,741. (No model.)
To 11]] 10/107 7'15 71111 7 concern/.-
Be it known that I, FRANK IV. MILLER. a citizen of the United States, residing at Wooster, in the county of IVayne and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in barn-door hangers; and it consists in the construction and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
One object of my invention is to efl'ect improvements in the construction of the linkpiece which is employed to connect the doorstraps and the wheel-housing.
A further object of my invention is to effect, in combination with the link-piece, improve ments in the construction of the door-straps whereby the latter are laterally adjustable to enable the door-hanger to be used on a door of any thickness and to facilitate the applica tion of the door-hanger to the door.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door-hanger embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a pair of door-straps 1 2, which are preferably U-shaped, as here shown, and the upper ends of the arms of which are bent laterally to form the overlapping slidably-related portions l 2, respectively. The strap 1 is secured to one side of a door by bolts or other suitable means in such manner that the lateral portions l thereof are a slight distance above the top of the door. The link portion 3 comprises the end loops 4, having upstanding ears 5 on their upper sides, and a hingebar 6, connecting the said ears and adapted to be engaged by the hook portion 70f the sup porting wheel housing 8, whereby pivotal connection is effected between the link-piece and the wheel-housing. The lateral portions 2 of the door-strap 2, which bears against the door on the side opposite the strap 1, are here shown as secured in the upper portions of the loops at, the lateral or cross portions 1 of the straps l slidably engaging the lower portions of the respective loops 4:. This construction of the link-piece and the door-straps enables the'latter to be laterally adjusted to vary the width of the space between them according to the thickness of the door to which the hanger is to be applied, and the same bolts may be employed for securing both of the straps to opposite sides of the door. Hence my improved door-hanger is adapted to be used on a door of any width and may be very readily and quickly applied thereto or detached therefrom, as will be understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
1. In a barn-door hanger, the combination of a link-piece to bear on the top of the door, and straps to be secured to opposite sides of the door, said straps having lateral portions extending across the door and slidabl y related to each other. and engaged by the link-piece, substantially as described.
2. In a barn-door hanger, the combination of a link-piece, adapted to bear on the top of a door, and having loops disposed transversely with reference to the door, and door-straps to bear on opposite sides of the door, and having lateral portions slidably related and engaged by the loops of the link-piece, whereby the width of the space between the straps on opposite sides of the door may be varied for the purpose set forth, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
