App-neuronalen-oetoberaaaar?.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM J. DAYS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dorchester, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding-Door Hangers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in builders hardware and more particularly to a hanger for sliding doors, the object of the invention being to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly eficient and durable hanger which may be easily applied; and with this general obj ect in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specilication and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the improved hanger applied to a door and its frame;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing one of the hangers and its track on an enlarged scale; and
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on substantially the plane indicated by the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral l designates a common type of door frame, whereas 2 indicates a sliding door supported by the improved hanger. A straight horizontal track 3 is suspended from the crown bar of the frame 1 by any suitable means, but vertical hanger bolts 4 are preferably provided for this purpose, the upper ends of said bolts extending through slots 5 in the depressed central portions 6 of attaching plates 7, the latter being secured in any preferred manner to said crown bar. Nuts 8 are threaded on the bolts l above and below the attaching plates to hold said bolts in properly adjusted position. By loosening the bolts, it will be obvious that they may be shifted in the slots 5 to position the track 3 most advantageously.
Each of the improved hangers includes a horizontally elongated preferably rectangu- Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1, 1918.
SeI'lNo.' 198,'527. I
lar body or block 9, said block having a circular bore 10 formed longitudinally therethrough to receive the track 3 which is also of circular formation, that is in transverse section. A longitudinal slot 11 is formed throughout the length of the block 9 and leads from the upper side of said block to the bore 10, for the purpose of straddling the hanger bolts 4L as the blocks are shifted along the track. The upper side of each block 9 is also formed with a pair of short downwardly converging slots 12 which lead from its upper side to its bore, said slots receiving downwardly converging wheels 14 which rest on the track 3, said wheels being rotatably mounted on upwardly converging pins 15 which are driven in diagonal bores 16 formed in the block.
For securing the hanger to the door, a vertical attaching plate 17 is formed integrally with one of the lower corners of the block 9, so that said plate may be secured to one side of the door, the block then resting on the upper edge of said door as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive device for carrying out the objects of the invention, the improved hanger including only a single casting and a pair of wheels. It will of course be understood that the several slots and the bore 10 will be formed in the block 9 while casting the latter and since no parts of this block are in sliding contact with other parts, it need not be machined unless preferred.
Since probably the best results are obtained from the several specific details shown and described, these details constitute the preferred form of the hanger, but I wish it understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes might well be made.
I claim:-
A door hanger comprising a horizontally elongated block having a longitudinal circular bore to receive an elevated track, and a longitudinal slot leading from said bore to the upper side of the block to straddle the suspending means of said track, said block also having a pair of short downwardly converging slots on opposite sides of the first named slot and leading from the upper side of the block to said bore, a my hand in the presence of tWo subscribing pair of downwardly converging Wheels Witnesses. mounted rotatably in said short slots to travel on the track, and an attaching plate depending from said block for connection to the door.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set WILLIAM J. DAYS.
