UNITED STATES Patented June 13, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
UNIBRELLA-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,126, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed October 22, 1904. Serial No. 229,661.
.T all 107mm/ it Duty concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON E. FREUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Umbrella-Holders and the Like, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevational view of the device embodying my invention, showing the same as when in use attached to a pocket of a garment and supporting an umbrella. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the spring-clip. Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. is an inverted plan view of the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in umbrella-holders and thelike, the object being to produce a device to be secured to or upon a pocket, belt, or other part of the wearing-apparel of a person and detachably carry or support an umbrella or the like, the device being held firmly in position when in use and being easily removable, if desired, when not in use.
Vith this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrang'ement of the several parts of the device, all as will be hereinafter described and afterward pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, wherein like characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates a clip, preferably formed of sp1-in g metal and having', in edge elevation, the approximate shape of an inverted U, one member thereof (lettered 2) being provided with openings or slots 4, and the other member thereof (lettered 3) being provided at its lowermost edge with an inturned portion or iiange 5, bearing serrations or saw-teeth 6.
T indicates a strap, preferably provided with a buckle 8 of anyusual construction, which is designed to be threaded through the openings or slots 4 in the clip 1 and be adjustably held therein, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
In Fig. 1 the device is illustrated as secured to or with in the pocket of a garment, the member 3 of the clip 1 being inserted inside the pocket, and the member 9., to which strap 7 is attached, remaining on the outside, the serrations 6 holding the clip firmly in position and preventing any accidental withdrawal of the same from the pocket. By springing the members 2 and 3 away from each other the clip and its carried parts may be easily detached from its support whenever desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In adevice of the character described, the combination with an inverted U shaped spring-clip having openings and a serrated inturned edge for the purposes speciiied, of a strap threaded through said openings and adjustably held therein for supporting the article to be carried; substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with an inverted U shaped spring-clip, one member thereof being formed with parallel slits 4 for receiving a strap and the other member thereof being adapted to be inserted in a pocket or other part of a garment and being provided with an inturned lip portion bearing serrations for holding the clip in position and preventing accidental removal of the same, of a strap threaded through said slits 4 and being adjustable laterally therein for supporting the article to be carried; substantially as described.
3. As a new article of manufacture, an umbrella-holder comprising an inverted- U- shaped spring-clip having openings in one member thereof for receiving a strap and a serrated inturned edge on the other member thereof adapted to be inserted in a pocket or other part of a garment, the said serrated edge, due to the yielding character of said clip, thus biting into said pocket and preventing accidental removal of the same, and a strap adapted to be threaded through said openings and adjustable laterally therein; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
i MILTON E. FREUND.
