PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC N. BAKER, BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
SELF-CLOSING FAUCET- SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,238, dated May 30, 1905.
Application filed June 5,1903. Serial No. 160,229.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,'ISAAG N. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Closing Faucets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in'the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is a self-closing faucet; and the objects of the invention are to provide simple means whereby the faucet handle when released will be automatically returned to its closed position, shutting off the flow.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspecitve view of a faucet making use of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a front view, and Fig. 3 is a top view.
As is clearly shown in the drawings, the device consists in a projection 1, fixed to the faucet-handle 2, engaging the face of a flat spring 3, which is secured to the body of the faucet by a bracket 4.
When the handle is turned to open the fauset, the projecting end 1 bears against and slides over the face of the upright spring 3, pressing it back, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and when the faucet-handle is released the spring 3 in returning to its normal upright position presses against the projection 1 and closes the faucet.
suitable material and is preferably held in place by being fitted into a slot 4 of the bracket 4 and further secured by bolts 4*.
The spring 3 can thus be easily and quickly The spring 3 may be made of steel or other vertically-slotted bracket formed integral 1 with said body; a vertical flat spring remove ably secured in said slotted bracket and a projection carried by the faucet-spindle op,- posite said handle and integral therewith, and adapted to bear against one side of said vertical fiat spring when the faucet is opened in one direction only and to be restored to its original position by said vertical flat spring when the faucet-handle is released, substantially as described.
' In testimony whereofI afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC N. BAKER.
