PATENT OFFICE.
GARMENT-CLASP- SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,548, dated May 2, 1905.
Application filed March 17, 1903. Serial l lo. 148,248.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAURICE MoUFLIER, a citizen of the French Republic. residing at La Fere, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to a stuff -clasping fastener, more especially designed for braces or other purposes, dispensing with all buttons.
The annexed drawings, which are given by Way of an example, illustrate the invention as being applied to braces.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the fastener; Fig. 2, a side view thereof, the clasping device being open; Fig. 3, a
back view of the same; Fig. 4c, a side view showing the fastener as being clasped on the edge of a piece of stuff E. Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views.
The fastener comprises a metal framing a of suitable shape, which may be obtained by stamping or by any other means, formed at itslower part with a cup 5 with cut-out bottom, and provided with a stamped rib c to give stiffness to the same, and ending at its upper part with two jaws (Z, each of said jaws having an eye a. In the latter engage lugs f of a metal plate f, which is connected to the brace. Between the jaws (Z is interposed a spiral spring 9, secured to a bar it, at the lower part of which an india-rubber cushion c', fixed upon a suitable plate is held by bent projections, two of which, p, are left unbent to clasp the stuff when the fastener is in use.
A lever A is pivoted at the lower end of the jaws and carries a knee projection m, which being snapped down or up acts upon the spring 9. Opposite the projection on the lever it carries a small lug a, which is embedded in the stamped groove 0 of the part a and limits the stroke of the said lever by abutting against the end of the groove. A flat spring 0, interposed against the spring g on the inner side, has for its object to hold the lever at rest by bearing against the flat faces of the projection at and lugn when the-latter is snapped up.
Spring 0 is secured to the spring 9 at the lower end thereof, and the upper end of spring 0 is free, so that when the lever I; is in the position shown in Fig. 4 the free end of the spring engages with the flat face of the proj ection on.
To clasp the stuff, it is only necessary to introduce it between the cup Z) and the cushion 71, and then by pulling the lever It to allow the spring and the india-rubber cushion to snap down on the cup. The latter is also provided with two teeth Z, preventing the sliding on the stuff. (See Figs. 1 and 5.) On the contrary, to disengage the stuff it is simply necessary to press on the lever k, which then returns to the position illustrated in Fig. 2.
It is obvious that I may modify either the construction or shape of the parts described without departing from the principle of my invention and without limiting their use.
I claim 1. A fastener for braces and the like, consisting of two jaws, one of said jaws ending in a spiral spring where it connects with the other jaw, said spring holding the jaws together.
2. A fastener for braces and the like, consisting of two jaws, one of said jaws endingin a spiral spring where it connects with the other jaw, said spring holding the jaws together and a lever for separating the jaws.
3. A fastener for braces and the like, consistingof two jaws, one of said jaws ending in a spiral spring where it connects with the other jaw, said spring holding the jaws together, a lever connected to one of the jaws and having a projection for separating the jaws and a spring for normally keeping the lever out of engagement with the jaws.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
MAURICE MOUFLIER.
