TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. WEBSTER BANKE, of Limestoneville, inthe county of Mdntour, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and. useful Improvement in Gas-Gei1erator and -I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrcwings,forming part of thisspccificatiom;
This invention relates to a new and improved method of generating gas fromispirits or h ydrocarbomoils; and it consists in the peculiar,c'onstructioumnd arrangement of the retort, and in the manner in which the gos= 'tube ortubes are protected from the heat of the flame,-as will be hereinafterdescribed.
Figure 1 is a izertjcal section of the apparatus through the line m a: of fig. 2, showing the retort, and the manner in which it is arranged iii-"reference to'the other parts. i I
Figure 2 is a view of the retort and deflector, as seen when the same areturned bottom side up,
Similar'ietters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the retort. v
B is the deflector.
G is the gasFpipe.
Dis the pipe which supplies the oil or liquid to the retort.
E is a protector for the gas-pipe; I
V The retort is formed of any sui-table kind of metal, with anorifice through its centre, as'seen in. the drawiugyso that the liquid is contained in an annular chamber, as seen. I v
The gas-pipeC passes: up through the bottom oi the retort, and extends'to near its upper side, or above the liquid. l x p r This pipe is curved, so that its inner end is brought to the centre of the retort, where the burner is attached, as seenin the drawing.v p v The protectoi' E keeps the heat of the flame from the gas-tube, reflecting or radiating it to the retort.
The deflector B is provided withbearers E, which rest upon the retort, as seen in'tho (Ira-wing.
The supply of oilor liquid is regulated by a cock in the tube D, so that there shall always be space for. the gas or vapor above it inthe retort. r p
Having thus described'my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt,
The gas-generator, constructed as described, consisting of the annular reservoir A,'in the inner-side of which the curved pipe 0 is secured, itsbase' extending within the reservoir, above therlevclof the oil, and the burner upon its end extending to the central opening in the reservoir Aga'nd provided with the protector E, the Perforated deflector 13, above the reservoir, and the supply-pipe D, all arranged as described for thepurpose specified. p I
