Description

E. GINSS. Gas-Burner Regulator.
-No 196,349. Patented 00 23, 1877:

I MP'ETERs, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, ::v C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE GINSS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-BURNER REGULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,349, dated October 23, 1877; application filed September 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE GINSS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Gas Economizer and Purifier, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is avertical section on line y y in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 00 w in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding' parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A is a hollow cylinder, having formed 011 its lower head an internallythreaded socket, B, which is adapted to receive the nipple of a gas-fixture,which usually receives the burner. A head, 0, having formed on it a nipple, D, for receiving a gas-burner, is screwed into the upper end of the cylinder A. Two or more conically-bored nipples, E, are screwed into the bottom of the cylinder, and communicate with the interior of the socket B. These nipples are inclined outwardtoward the wall of the cylinder A, so as to direct the gas against the under surface of the head 0, and arrest the solid particles which are thus thrown downward to the bottom of the cylinder.
The passage of the gas through the small apertures of the nipples and its expansion in the cylinder modify the pressure, so that the burner screwed onto the nipple D gives a uniform light, blowing is avoided, and gas is consequently economized. Scintillation and discoloration of the flame are also avoided, as the impurities which produce these undesirable efiects are arrested in the cylinder.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The gas-1:)urifier consisting of a cylinder, A, having internally-threaded pipe B, the detachable cover 0, having externally-threaded pipe D, and the conically-perforated tubes E, all arranged as shown and described.
EUGENE GINSS.
