rinr'rnn snares irnf'rnnr ermon GAS-LIGHTING SYSTEM.
Be it known that I, MELLE P; SM'EDES, a subject of the Kingdom of Netherlands; and a resident of Reeman in the county of Newaygo and State of Michigan, have in- V vented a new and useful Improvement in Gas-Lightlng Systems, of which the following 1s a specification,
My invention is an improvement in gas burners and consists in certain novel constructions and combination of parts hereinafter described and clalmed.
In the drawings:j I
Figure 1 is a side View. of aburner with the leak indicator in section, I
Fig. 2 is an enlarged side View of the a burner,
v portion 56, anda tapering plane portion 57. p
- Fig. 31s a vertical section ofthe burner,
and 7 Fig. 4c is a side View of the nozzle. The burner," as shown more particularly in Fig. 8, comprises a'noz'zle consisting of an internally threaded cap 55, for engaging the pipe 49, andthe cap has an extension at its top comprising a cylindrical'threaded The cap and the portions 56and 57 are chambered as shown, the chamber or bore consisting of five portions gradually decreasing in diameter from the'entrance of the cap to the exit at the apex of the portion 57. The threaded portion 56 of the extension is engaged with the lower end of a casing, comprising a cylindrical portion 58 and a spherical portion 59, the spherical portion havin openings 60 as shown, adj acentto the cap. The extension is of such length that Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 30, 1915. Serial No. 42,745;
' A cap 69 is connected with the cylindrical portion 58 or the casing, the said cap having a reduced portion "(0 whichfits around the cylindrical portion 58 closely as shown. The cap has a perforated top 71, and a screen 72 is arranged transversely ofthe topabove the portion 58 of the burner. The
bracket 67 has a vholder 73 for the chimney or flue 7 It will be noted that the capis of smaller diameter than the mantle and extends within the lower end of the mantle. r
- Iclaim:
A burner comprising asubstantially cylindrical casing having at its lower end an approximately spherical enlargement provided with a series of air inlet openings at the end remote from the cylindrical portion, and a tapering nozzle detachably connected with the spherical enlargement at the said end remote from the cylindrical portion and extending through the enlargement and delivering at the junction of the enlargement to the cylindrical portion, the bore of the nozzle being steppeddown toward its inner MELLE P. SMEDES.
