BENIE- LEHMAN, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
PICTURE-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part ,of Letters Patent No. 786,977, dated April 11, 1905.
Application filed December 9, I904. Serial No. 236,203.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENIE LEHMAN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip-' tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
of molding, showing my improved hook or hanger secured thereto. Fig. .2 is a View of the hook or hanger removed from the molding.
In a detail description of the invention similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts. V
The hook or hanger 1 is of the usual construction, having the upper end 2 thereof curved in one direction to hook over the upper edge of the molding & and the lower end 3 curved in an opposite direction to engage the picture cord or wire 5. Secured to the body of the hook or hanger in any suitable manner isa resilient arm 6, which has its ends terminated in hooks 7 which engage with the lower longitudinal edge of the molding 4 on both sides of the hook or hanger and holds the same rigidly in contact with the molding, so that any removal of a picture will not disthe hook or hanger in other ways.
lodge the hook or hanger from its position.
:As a simple. and convenient mode of attaching this resilient arm 6 to the hook or hanger I provide in the latter two openings 8, through which said arm is passed and is then bent downwardly to cause the ends 7 thereof to en gage the lower edge of the molding, as hereinbefore described. It is obvious that this resilient arm may be secured to the body of do not wish to be limited to the particular manner of attaching the same as herein shown and described.
One of the main objections to the use of the ordinary picture hook or hanger is found among furniture-dealers and is due tothe hook or hanger falling from themolding when a mirror or picture is removed. The hook or hanger in this case often fallsupon nicely polished. or finished furniture and mars the same 5 by indenting or scratching the polish.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. A picture hook or hanger adapted to be suspended from the upper edge of molding in the usual manner, said hook or hanger having 7 an arm secured to the body portion thereof and projecting on both sides thereof, said arm terminating at its ends in hooks which are adapted to engage the lower horizontal edge of the molding to hold'said hook or hanger in position, as shown and described.
2. A picture hook or hanger, a resilient arm passed through openings in the body of said hook or hanger and extending on each side thereof, said arm having its ends terminated 8O in hooks which are adapted to engage the lower edge of molding to hold the hook or hanger in position, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENIE LEHMAN.
