PATENT OEEIcE.
LAMP-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,916, dated March 14, 1905.
Application filed December 12, 1904. Serial No. 236,472.
To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM L. BROWNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at 1V orcester, in the county of \Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Guard, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of lampguards each of which is intended to house and protect the bulb of an incandescent electric lamp.
The especial object of this invention is to provide a lampguard in which a reflectordisk forms part of and supports the proteeting-frame; and a further object of this invention is to provide a lan'ip-guard consisting of a framework having a bottom ring forming a base upon which the lamp-guard and its inclosed bulb may be supported.
To these ends this invention consists ofthe lamp-guard as an article of manufacture and of the combinations of parts therein, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an incandescent electric lamp having a lamp-guard constructed according to this invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the reflector-disk, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the clamping-ring for fastening the guard to a lamp.
A lamp-guard constructed according to this invention comprises the reflector-disk having a central opening for the neck of an electric lamp. The reflector-disk may be fastened to the lamp in any desired way, preferably by means of a clamping ring, and extending down from and carried by the reflector-disk is a protecting-framework of Wire.
Referring to the accompanying drawings and in detail, a lamp-guard constructed according to this invention as herein illustrated comprises the fiat conical sheet-metal reflector-disk 10, having the central opening 11. Pressed up from the reflector-disk 10 are fingers 12, which are inelosed by a fasteningcollar 13, clamped in place by a screw 14 and its nut 15.
The wire framework of the guard which extends down from and is supported by the reflector-disk comprises a base-ring 16 and the wires or uprights 17. Between the base-ring 16 and the reflector-disk 10 I preferably employ a spreader-ring 18, which may be fastened in place by the binding-wire 19.
In a complete lamp-guard constructed according to this invention it will be seen that the bulb of an electric lamp will be inclosed and protected so that the same will not be liable to become broken, while at the same time the reflector-disk will direct the light downwardly or by tipping the device the light may be reflected in any desired direction.
Lamp-guards constructed according to this invention are especially adapted for use in machine-shops and factories, and one particular advantage in the use of a lamp-guard constructed according to this invention is due to the fact that the bottom ring forms a base upon which the guard and the electric lamp inclosed therein may be supported whenever it is desired to set the same down upon a table or bench.
lam aware that changes may be made in the manufacture of lamp-guards according to this invention without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims. I do not wish, therefore, to be limited to the particular lamp-guard which I have herein shown and described; but
\Vh at ldo claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is*
1. As an article of manufacture, a lampguard comprising a reflector-disk having a central opening for the neck of an electriclamp bulb, and wire framework having a bottom ring which forms a base upon which the lamp-guard and its inclosed lamp-bulb may rest, and which provides the opening through which the lamp-bulb may be inserted in place.
2. The combination of an electric-lamp bulb, and a lamp-guard comprising a reflectorelosed bulb may rest, which base-ring also provides the opening through which the lamphuib is inserted into phtee.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing IO witnesses.
\VILLIAM L. BROWN E.
