WILLIAM WARNER BODEN, OF IBERWICK, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADJUSTABLE ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 27, 1916.
Application led August 31, 1914. Serial No. 859,465. I
T0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. BODEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berwick, in the county of Columbia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Electric-Light Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to adjustable electric light fixtures and particularly to those of the dome type.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of an electric light fixture embodying an improved construction whereby the lighting elements thereof can be adliusted vertically according to the particular conditions under which the fixture may be used.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and inthe arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of an electric light` fixture constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the fixture.
Referring to the drawings the improved fixture is shown as comprising an interiorly threaded ring 10 provided with screw openings 11 whereby same may be secured to a ceiling, which latter is indicated at 12. Threaded in the ring 10 is the upper end of a tubular member 13, the lower end of said member having threaded therein a ring 14. Slidably mounted in the member 13 is a tubular member 15, having threaded on its upper end a ring 16 which overlaps the flange 14 so that the tubular member 15 cannot be disengaged from the tubular member 13 by downward movement of the former. Encircling the tubular member 15 and bearing at its upper end against the ring 16 and at its lower end against the ring 14 is counterbalancing spring 17. Threaded on the lower end of the tubular member 15 is a head 18 provided with a plurality of interiorly threaded sockets 19 in which are mounted respectively incandescent lights 20. The head 18 is also provided on its lower end with a gripping knob 21 for convenience in moving the tubular member' 15 up and down as will be obvious. Mounted on the head 18 are brackets 18 and secured to these brackets is a shade or dome'22. The joint between the tubular member 13 and ring 10 is hidden by means of a fancy cover plate 23 secured in place by a set screw 24 carried thereby and adapted to impinge against the tubular member 13. The conducting wires are indicated at 25 and pass through the tubular members 13 and 15 andv are connected to the line wires 26 at one end and to the light 20 at their other end. Mounted in the lower end of the tubular member 13 is a Set screw 27 adapted to impinge against the tubular member 15 to secure the latter in a desired adjusted position.
By providing the counterbalancing spring 17 it will be apparent that the upward adjustment of the member 15 will be facilitated.
What is claimed is An electric light fixture comprising a tu-V bular member having means at one end for securing same to ceiling and an inwardly directed flange at its other end, a set screw in said flange, a second tubular member slidably engaged within thekfirst named tubu- Y n lar member and having a circumscribing flange on the end thereof movable within the first named tubular member, said second tubular member being engagea-ble by the set screw to lock said member against move-V ment relatively to the first member, a spring encircling the second tubular member and bearing at one end against the fiange of the rst named tubular member and at its other end against the flange of the second named ytubular member, a head threaded on the otherY end of the second named tubular member, threaded sockets embodied in said head,
and a shade secured to the head.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
