Be it known that I, CHARLES A. Haas, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State 01" Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in a Combined Adjustable Window-Shade and Curtain Bracket, of which improvement the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved. combined adjustable window-shade and curtain bracket; and it consists in the certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter.

1n the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved windowshade and curtain bracket, the same being constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of a portion of the same, the said section being taken on the line X X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of one of the clamps detached from the bracket.

To construct a combined adjustable windowshade and curtain bracket in accordance with my invention, 1 provide a thin strip of metal 1 and form along each side thereof flanges 2, the said flanges extending the entire length of said strip, which is also formed with a central vertical slot 4-, having adjacent elevated sides 5. Operating along theseflanges 2 is a bar 6, having inwardly.-extending flanges 8 and a central slot 7, both of which are formed in the direction of the length 01 the bar This bar 6 is provided at its inner end with integralportion 11, bent at a right angle with said bar and formed with slots 12, in which the ends of two window-shades find bearings, the one shade arranged parallel to the other. This bar 6 is attached in a horizontal position to the strip 1 by means of a rivet 9, passing through the slot 7 of the bar 6, a box-shaped filling 6, the slot 4 of the strip 1, and through a rectangular piece 10 in such a manner that the said bar 6 may be adjusted either horizontally or vertically and clamped in the desired position by a cam-button 9'. At points near the upper and lower ends of the flanges 2 of the strip 1 are slots for the reception of clamping-bars 13, each of said bars consisting of thin metallic strips 13, slotted 14: in the direction of its length, the one end, 15, being bent at a right angle and formed with inwardly-projecting integral spurs 16 to engage with the frame 17 of the window. Two of these above-described bars 13 are arranged in the top and two in the bottom slots and may be adjusted to lit varying widths of windowframes and held rigid by means of swiveled cam-buttons 9', passing through the slots 14: of the clamps, the said swivels being loosely attached to the strip 1. Attached to the window-frame 17, by means of an integral spur 16' and held in position by the strip 1, is the lower end of a curtain-bracket 18, which extends outwardly with an upward inclination and inwardly on a horizontal plane, the inner end being provided with-a spur 16 to engage with the top of the window-lrame 1, as will be seen by reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings. The upper portion of this bracket is slotted at 19 and is fitted with a sliding bar 20, held in position by a swiveled piece 21, and the said bar at the outer extremity is bent at 22 to form a support for the curtain-pole, the said pole held in position by a screw 23.

In operation two of the abovealescribed devices are used for each window and are titted in position by lirst adjusting the clamps 13 to the width 01'' the frame 17 of the window and driving thespurs 16 into the edges of the same. The wiiulow-shzules may be adjustmil as to height by elevating or lowering the bar 6 and the said bar adjusted horizontally to suit the widths of the slnnles and clamped in their desired positions by the canidiuttons 9. The curtain-brackets 20 may be :uliusted by simply drawing out the same.

The bracket used on the opposite windowlrame is identical in construction with that shown and described. The small circular parts at the base of the slots 12 in the portion .11 serve as bearings for the round spindles oi the whidow-slnules, the brackets being interchangeable or used on either side of the win dowframe.

The bracket 18 and its sliding curtain-sin)- port maybe dispensed with, if it is so desired, or when in use in rooms where curtains are not in use.

it will be noted that various slight modifications and changes maybe made in the details of construction Without departing from the spirit of the invention. Therefore I do not Wish to confine myself to the construction shown and described. Y

Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The herein-described combined adjustable Window-shade and curtain-pole bracket consisting of the flanged slotted strip 1, the flanged bar 6 operating along the flanges of said strip having a slot 7 and bearing 11 for supporting one end of the Window-shades, the cam-button 9 loosely attached to the rivet 9, said rivet operating in the slot at of the strip 1 and the slot 7 of'the bar 6, whereby said bar may be adjusted either vertically or horizontally, the clamping-bars 13 arranged in pairs 20 at the top and bottom of the strip 1, the said with a bent portion 22 for the reception of one end of the curtain-pole, all arranged and combined for service, substantially as and for the purpose described.
