PATENT ONE-HALF'TO WV. E. ERETT, OF NEW STANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,335, dated February 21, 1905.
Application filed May 19, 1904. Serial No. 208,734.
To all] 1071/0171 it may concern:
Be it known thatI. PAUL S. TRUXAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hunker Station, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to tables designed for use on sailing vessels; and the object of said invention is to provide means for readily adjusting the top of the table to a horizontal plane or to a level position relatively to an inclined base or support.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a table embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
The table is of the center-pedestal type, and its pedestal or supporting-standard 1 is composed of two sectionsQ and 3, the lower sections 2 being provided with supporting-feet 4:, having apertures for the passage of suitable fastenings 5 to secure it to the deck or floor of a vessel. The upper section 3 of the standard supports a table-top 6. The pedestal or standard section 2 is provided at its upper end witha hemispherical head 7, which is formed with a socket or recess 8 to receive an eye 9 upon the upper end of a bolt 10, which bolt extends downward therethrough and is provided at its lower end with a securing-nut 12, having a hand-crank 13 or other suitable form of manipulating device. The eye 9 of said bolt 10 is swiveled to a corresponding eye 14 on the lower end of a bolt 15, extending upwardly through the upper section 3 of the standard or pedestal, which section of the standard or pedestal is provided at its lower end with a hemispherical recess connection between the eyes 9 and 14. The table-top 6 may then be tilted to a level position when the vessel leans to one sideor the other in making a tack, and said top may be readily secured in adjusted position by means of said hand-crank 13. The upper end of the bolt 15 is providedwith a washer l6 and securing-nut 17, which hold the table-top 6 in place. If desired, the table-top 6 may be in the form of a box or casing and may contain suitable material, like sand, to give strength and weight to the structure.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention- Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A table of the character described, comprising a pedestal composed of two sections, the lower section being provided with a rounded head and the upper section with a socket to receive said head and in which the head is adapted to turn, a bolt extending upwardly through the lower section, a bolt extending through the upper section, said bolts being swiveled to adapt the one section to turn upon the other section, means for rigidly connecting the bolts and a table-top confined upon the upper section by the upper bolt, substantially as described.
In'testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PAUL S. TRUXAL. Witnesses:
W. S. 'HAYs, J. M. SI-IERAW.
