Description

PATENTED FEB. 7, 1905.
J. B. ANNIN.
FOLDING CAMP STOVE.
APPLICATION FILED snr'lnzz. 19o 4.
UNTTED STATES Patented February '7, 1905.
PATENT OEEICE FOLDING CAMP-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,758, dated February 7, 1905,
Application filed September 22, 1904. Serial No. 225,411.
le it known that l, J osera B. ANNIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Yellowstone and State of .\loiitana,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Camp-Stoves; and l do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its especial object to provide a simple, cheap, and -efiicient campstove which is capable of being folded or knocked down, so it may be readily carried from place to place.
'lo the above ends this invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described, and defined in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved stove, showing the same set up ready for use. Fig. Q is a front elevation of the stove, some parts being sectioned. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line a@ .fc3 of Fig. 1; and F'g. 4 is aside elevation of the stove, showing the same as folded up.
The body of the stove is in the form of a rectangular grate made up of a rectangular marginal frame 1 and transverse bars 2, the said parts being preferably cast integral. To the ends of the marginal frame 1 at 3 are pivoted legs i, which legs are rigidly connected in pairs by end plates 5. These legs and end plates are adapted to be folded within the frame 1, as shown in Fig'. 4. The end plates at their intermediate portions are provided with perforated lugs 6, through which and suitable seats in the end portions of the frame l lock-pins 7 are adapted to be inserted to lock the legs 4 and plates 5 in vertically downturned positions. The lock-pins T are advisably connected to the frame 1 by chains 7, which prevent them from becoming misplaced or lost.
To the sides of the marginal frame 1 are loosely hinged at 8 side plates 9, which are e). plates 9 in horizontal positions when desired,
they are provided with pivotally-attached hook-rods 10, the hooked ends of which are adapted to be caught over the sides of the frame 1.
When the stove is adjusted for use, one of the side plates 9---to wit, that plate which is on the wind side-will usually be raised into horizontal position, while the other side plate will be dropped down, as shown in Fig. 3. This causes the wind to produce a forced draft upward through the grate, and, furthermore, the raised side plate affords a shelf or leaf upon which various cooking utensils may be conveniently placed. 1V here there is little or no wind, the best results will be attained by raising both the side plates 9. 1V here the wind is exceedingly strong, it will sometimes be found desirable to drop down the side plate on the wind side to prevent a too intense blowing action from the wind.
Where it is desired to ship or transport the device from place to place, it may be folded within a small space, as shown in Fig. 4, by reference to which it will be seen that the end plates 5 are folded within the frame 1, while the side plates 9 are overlapped with each other and with the folded end plates.
The device described, while extremely simple and of a small cost, has in practice been found sufficient for the purposes had in view.
It will of course be understood that the said device is capable of modification within the scope of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.
That l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
1. A folding stove, the combination with a rectangular grate-like member, of end plates hinged thereto for folding' movements, a means for locking said end plates in vertical positions, and a side plate hinged to said grate member, and provided with means for holding the same in a horizontal position, substantially as described.
2. A foldingstoVe,the combination with the means of which they may be held in horizon- IO grate-like member l 2 of the legs 4 pivoted to tal4 positions at will, substantiallyas described.
the ends thereof, at 3, end plates 5 rigidly In testimony WhereofIafX my signaturein connecting said legs in pairs, lock-pins 7 inpresence of two Witnesses.
5 sertible through seats in the ends of said grate member and in the said end plates 5, to loek JOSEPH B' ANNIN' said plates and legs in vertical positions, and Titnessesz side plates 9 hinged to the sides of said grate H. A. HUNT,
member, and provided with hook-rods 10, by H. B. BANT, J 1.
