ELECTRIC LAMP FIXTURE.-
APPLICATION FILED J NE 8, 1904 3 m E1EL2 I UNITED STATES Patented January 10, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
EDYVIN E. HAYWARD, OF VVATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE PLUME AND ATWOOD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF VVATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
ELECTRIC-LAMP FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 779,779, dated January 10, 1905.
Application filed June 8,1904=.- Serial No. 211,601.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN E. HAYWARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State 5 of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Electric-Lamp Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to electric-lamp fixtures particularly adapted for portable elec- IO tric lamps; and the object thereof is the provision of a fixture of simple and compact construction comprising a cluster-box whose interior is readily accessible for wiring purposes and which is provided with a shade-holder se- 1 5 cured to a removable cap provided for the cluster-box.
In carrying out my invention I employ a cluster-box having a body portion adapted to be connected to the standard of a lamp, a
removable cap, means for securing the same to the body portion of the cluster-box, arms extending from the body portion of the cluster-box, lamp-sockets connected to the ends of said arms, a shade-holder supported by the said removable cap, and means for securing the said shade-holder to the said removable cap.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved electric-lamp fixture; and Fig.
2 is a cross-section on line w a, Fig. 1.
My improved electric lamp fixture comprises a cluster-box having a main body portion a, adapted to be connected by suitable means to the upper end of a standard a of a 3 5 portable or other electric lamp. The body portion a of the cluster-box is provided with a removable cap 6, which is secured to the body portion a by means of set-screws 2 or otherwise.
0 0 represent arms extending from the body portion of the cluster-box and provided at their outer ends with lamp-sockets d d, adapted to receive the electric-light bulbs 3 4.
I provide the removable cap I) with a studbolt 6, and I also employ a shade-holder comprising a hub f, arms 6, and a ring it, adapted to receive and support the lamp-shade.
The hub f of the shade-holder is provided centrally with an aperture adapted to receive the stud-bolt e, and I also employ a nut 2', adapted 5 to screw onto the stud-bolt and by means of which through the hub thereof the lamp-shade bracket is secured to the removable cap 6.
The arms 0 c are preferably made with return rising bends which bring the lamp-sockets (Z d at their endsinto a plane above the plane of the connection of said arms with the cluster-box body a and advantageously. above the plane of the ring a of the shade-holder, so as to be in better position for the light of the light-bulbs 3 t to be reflected by the shade employed.
It will be readily apparent that in this construction the lead-wires passing through the standard of the lamp may be taken to the inte- 5 rior of the cluste r-box, and within the same the connections from these wires to the wires 5, leading through the tubular arms 0 to the lamp-sockets (Z (Z, may be made, and also that by removing the nut 2' and unscrewing the 7 screws 2 theseconnections are readily accessible. While I have illustrated a cluster-box provided with two lights, it is to be understood that any number of electric lamps may be employed in a fixture constructed in accordance with my present invention without departing from the spirit of the same.
I claim as my invention 1. An electric-lamp fixture, comprising a cluster-box having a body portion adapted to so be attached to a lamp-standard, a removable cap for said body portion of the cluster-box, arms extending from said body portion, lampsockets connected to the said arms, a shadeholder supported by said removable cap, and 5 means for securing the said shade-holder to the said cap.
2. An electric-lamp fixture, comprising a cluster-box having a body portion adapted to be attached to a lamp-standard, a removable 9 cap for the body portion of said cluster-box, arms extending from said body portion, lampsockets connected to the ends of said arms, a stud-bolt secured in the said removable cap,
a shade-holder Whose hub is passed over the l said stud-bolt, and a nut for securing the said shade-holder to said removable cap.
3. An electric-lamp fixture, comprising a 5 cluster-box having a body portion adapted to be attached to a lamp-standard, a removable cap for the body portion of said cluster-box, screws passing through the said removable cap and the body portion to bind these parts IO together, arms extending from said body portion, lamp-sockets connected to the ends of said arms, a stud-bolt secured in the said removable cap, a shade-holder Whose hub is passed over the said stud-bolt and a nut for securing the said shade-holder to said removable cap. 5
Signed by me this 31st day of May, 1904:.
EDWIN E. HAYWARD.
