Description
. c. n. BLINN.
Harrow.
Patented May 5, 1868.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES D. BLIN on road HURON, MICHIGANf IMPROVEMENT IN' FLEXIBLE HARROWS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 77,574, dated May 5, 1868.
To all whom it may concern 7 'Be it known that I, CHARLES'D. BLINN,.0f Port Huron, in the county of St; Clair and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flexible Harrows; and I do declare that the followingis atrue and accurate description t h.ereo f,"re i'erence being had to the accompanying drawing, qand to the letters of parallel-bars A, many or as few asithe nature of the work, the state of the ground, and the power applied may demand. Into these parallel bars'iinsert the ordinary ironor Steel barrow-teeth, in the usual way, and connect the'bar's by the'li-nks O and the solid link D. The links 0 are double and actas hinges, to, allow for the play of the-barsin' passing over uneven ground; The links pass around the bars, one end inside the end tooth of one bar and the other end outside the end tooth of she next bar. The draft, being at the clevis E and from near the corner of the barrow, produces a diagonal direction of the barrow when in use, which diagonal direction, with the 'position of the links, --will prevent the links from slipping offby the draft being directly against the outer teeth, thereby securing the whole together-while in use. By this arrangement 0f the links they admit of the bars being easily taken apart for transportation or'storage: The solid'link I) is rigidly fastened tothe bars which it connects together, to prevent any nn= due tilting of the rear bar in the barrow. I The flexibility given by thecon meeting-1i nks,
independently ofeitherof the other bars, and not disarra'nge the Whole, as would be the case were'tlie whole of the 'bars rigidly attached together. n
. The bar's','-li-nks,
plish the work. desired,
v and greatly facilitates repairs when necessary.
What I- claim as my invention, and desire to v secure-by Letters Patent, i s i 1. The .double links Qwhen operated'in connection ,with'the bars A in the position herein described. r
*2. The solid link-D, in connection with the above-mentioned parts when constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
