A further object is to provide means for iecluring the fastening to the tool by a single Further objects and advantages of this in vention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in theis shown as applied to a pick, although as the nature of the invention becomes apparent it will be obvious that the invention can be utilized with other forms of tools, if desired.
The handle-socket l is provided at one end with an opening or recess 2, into which one end of a handle 3 fits. The other end of the socket is provided with a head 4, having oppositely-disposed projections 5 and 6, with parallel beveled ends 7 and 8, one of the projections having an opening or perforation 9. A tenon 10 projects from the head and is deflected or disposed at an angle to the longitudinal center of the socket. This tenon 10 is provided to engage a mortise 11 in the tool 12, which is provided with edges inclined to correspond to those of the tenon. Adjacent to the mortise and at the abutting portion of the tool a part of the tool is removed to form device will efficiently hold the socket and tool together.
I claim 1. A handle-socket for tools comprising a member having a seat and a terminally-disposed deflected tongue carried by the member.
2. A handle-socket for tools comprising a member having a seat, oppositely-disposed projections on the member and a terminallydisposed deflected tongue carried by the member.
3. The combination with a tool having a slot and a seat, of a handle-socket provided with a tongue in the slot, a projection in the seat and a fastening device projecting through the projection connecting the socket and tool.
4:. The combination with two members one of which is a tool and the other a handle- I socket therefor, of a deflected tongue on one of the members and projecting through a slot in the other member, said tongued member engaging the other member to prevent a longitudinal or transverse movement of the tool.
5. A tool and a socket therefor, one of the elements having a deflected tongue projecting through the other member which is provided with a slot and a single fastening device for securing the two members together.
6. A handle-fastening member for tools having a deflected tongue, and a tool having a slot coinciding with the tongue. i w
