PATENT JOHNS. EBERT AND GEORGE A. TUCKFIELD, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
BARBERS CABINET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 774,314, dated November 8, 1904.
Application filed April 4, 1904. Serial No. 201,581. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN S. EBERT and GEORGE A. TUCKFIELD, citizens of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Barbers Cabinets, of which the following is a specification:
The objects of this invention are twofoldfirst, to provide an easily-accessible supply of paper for wiping a razor and other uses about a barbers chair, and, second, for displaying advertisements on the paper to be used.
The cabinet is to be placed conspicuously in the barbers shop.
The device consists of a base or body having a removable cover on its projecting front part and is adapted for holding a roll of toiletpaper. Above this base is an apartment having a hinged front door. In this apartment are located parts of the mechanism of the device to be hereinafter described. Improved means for cutting off the paper also form part of the invention.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the device, its various features being referred to by numeral characters, similar figures denoting corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation closed and ready for use. Fig. 2 is afront elevation with the base-cover removed and the door open. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross mid-section, and Fig. 1 is a plan of the guide-plate.
The numeral 1 designates the bodyof the cabinet, its front being closed with a cover 2.
The upper apartment 3 of the cabinet is pref erably made integral with the body 1 and has at its front upper and lower parts shallow recesses or paper'ways 4 4. A hinged door 5, with a large central opening 6 and having a fastening 7, is provided for this part: of the cabinet. The top of this door extends above the case '8 and is inclined upward to acentral point and is furnishedwith a similarly-shaped blade or cutter extending above the door on its rear side.
Within the apartment 3 is a metal plate 9, extending vertically between the paper-ways 4 4. Theupper part of this plate has at each corner a paper-guide 10, which is preferably formed by bending over on the plate from each side a part of the plate itself. Two slots 11 are cut down into the plate, leaving a central tongue which acts as a leaf-spring 12. This spring is normally inclined forward beyond the plane of the plate, so as to press lightly against the closed door 5.
The cabinet is prepared and used as follows: Remove the cover 2 and open the door 5. In the-body 1 place a continuous sheet of rolled paper 13, having the advertisements printed on it. There may also be put in this body a supply of perfuming or antiseptic preparations, as are desired. Passthe end of the paper up through-the recesses iand the guides 10 and out above the top of the cabinet. Close and catch the door and put on the cover 2. The paper will then be held by the pressure of the spring 12 against the door, and the advertisements on the paper will appear at the opening 6 in the door. As the paper is wanted it is drawn up out of the cabinet andby a downward and forward pull is separated by the cutter 8.
by the hand and drawn up again.
Having now described our invention and the manner of using it, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A b'arbers cabinet comprising a, body adapted to contain a continuous roll of paper, an upper apartment having a hinged door provided with a catch, paper-ways in the lower and upper parts of said upper apartment, and a plate having guides for the paper and a leafspring thereon, for the purposes stated.
2. In a barbers cabinet having a rolledpaper receptacle and thereabove an apartment having a front door andfastening therefor, and paper-ways through said apartment, a plate extending vertically between said paperways, paper-guides at the upper corners of said plate and a central leaf-spring between said guides substantially as described.
3. A barbers cabinet comprising a body The end of the sheet then left projects from the cabinet convenient to be grasped adapted to contain a continuous roll of paper, names to this specification in the presence of an upper apartment having a hinged cloor protwo subscribing Witnesses.
vided with a catch, a vertical cutter. at the top 4 of said (1061", paper-Ways in the upper and JOHN EBERT' 5 lowerpartsofsaidupperapartxnent, andaplate GEORGE TUCKFEELD" having guides for the paper and a leaf-spring Witnesses: thereon substantially as herein set forth. THOMAS J. ALMY,
In testimony whereof We have signed our VAN C. BUTTERFIELD.
