PATENT OFFICE.
' GEORGE HACKER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
WASHBOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,312, dated September 6, 1904.
Application filedNovember 19,1902. Serial No. 181,786. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LGEORGE HAoKER, acitizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboilers, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in washboilers; and it consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention isto construct a washboiler having an auxiliary boiler located within the outer one, the auxiliary boiler havinga perforated bottom whereby the contents of said auxiliary boiler is drained when sufliciently raised and conveyed to any place in the laundry Without the removing of the Wash by the use of a stick, as is now the common practice. V
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my complete invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with half thereof shown in section, showing theconstruction and the location of Fig. 3 is a vertical crosssectional view, with the bottom portion of the outer boiler broken away, taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. 'Fig. 4 is an end view of the bottom portion of the outer boiler broken away, showing the device in its raised position for draining the contents within the auxiliary boiler.
I 1 In the construction of'my invention I provide the outer boiler 5 preferably of the common construction and having the usual handles 6 located at the top. Within the boiler 5 is located a flanged bottom section '7, supported by two rods 8, extending lengthwise of said bottom and projecting upwardly at the ends, as indicated by the numeral 9. The upper ends of said rods are connected together and supporting the lift-handle 10. In the center of the flanged. bottom section is an opening 11, through which the water escaping from the auxiliary boiler 12 is drained intothe outer boiler 5'. The auxiliary boiler 12 is constructed of the usual walls 13 and bottom 14, the said bottombeing provided with a plurality of perforations 15 except at that the flanged bottom section. The auxiliary 'boileris provided with the usual handles 16,
by which said boiler is raised to a suflicient height until the hooks 17, located at each side of the auxiliary boiler and pivotally connectto be drained. To limit the movement ofthe flanged bottom section, perforated ears 18 are .secured to the ends of the auxiliary boiler,
through which the vertical portions 9 of the rods-8 pass.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
To use the boiler of my improved design, the.
device is first placed in position as shown in Fig. 2, one resting within the other. The
- contents to be boiled is placed within the auxiliary boiler, the bottom 14 coming in close contact with the bottom portion of the flanged bottom section, thereby preventing the water placed upon the wash within the boiler from escaping, and to remove the contents after sufiiciently boiled the party using the same raises the auxiliary boiler by means of the handle 16 until the hook 17, pivotally connected to the under side, comes in contact with the upper edge or head of the outer boiler At the same operation the flanged bottom section is allowed by its own gravity to assume alowered position, regulated by means of the projecting ears 18, to a distance sufficient to permit the water contained within the auxiliary boiler tofreely pass through the perforations 15, out through the opening 11, and back into the outer boiler.
To remove the entire auxiliary boiler and the flanged bottom section from the outer boiler, the party desiring to so remove'it grasps the handles 10, raising thev same, which at this action will permit the bottom of the auxiliary boiler to assume a position in close contact with the bottom of the flanged bottom section, thus making a perfect and leak-proof boiler.
By a device of this character the laundress may convey the wash from the boiler to any portion of the laundry withoutthe handling portion covering the opening 11 formed in of the boiling contents, and, if desired, the Wash Within the boiler may be conveyed in the same receptacle to the place wherein the clothes are dried.
The hook 17 being hinged to the bottom of the auxiliary boiler 12, as shown in Fig. 3, will assume aposition against and in contact with the walls of the auxiliary boiler, when said auxiliary boiler is permitted to slide Within the flanged bottom section, thereby freeing the outer end of the book 17, permitting the auxiliary boiler to be freely raised and lowered within the outer boiler, when the device is lifted by means of the handles 10, located upon the vertical portions ofthe rods 8.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. Awashboiler of the class described, comprising an outer boiler, an auxiliary boiler adapted to fit within the outer boiler, a flanged bottom section located beneath the auxiliary boiler, a means for limiting the movement of the flanged bottom section, and means whereby the contents of the auxiliary boiler may be drained and supported upon the outer boiler, substantially as specified.
2. A device of the class described, comprising an outer boiler, an auxiliary boiler located Within the outer boiler, ears mounted on the ends of said auxiliary boiler, a flanged bottom section located below and around the bottom of the auxiliary boiler, rods supporting the flanged bottom section projecting upwardly at the ends and passing through said ears for guiding and limiting the downward movement of said bottom section upon the auxiliary boiler, and a means for automatically retaining the auxiliary boiler in a raised position upon the top of the outer boiler, substantially as specified.
3. A device of the class described, comprising an outer boiler, an auxiliary boiler located within said outer boiler, a flanged bottom section having a central perforation located at the bottom of the auxiliary boiler, the bottom of the auxiliary boiler being perforated except at that portion above the opening in the flanged bottom section, rods supporting the flanged bottom section, ears formed on the ends of said auxiliary boiler for supporting said rods and limiting the downward movement of the flanged bottom section, hooks located on each side of the auxiliary boiler to be brought in contact with the upper edge of the outer boiler for supporting the auxiliary boiler and be automatically folded against the auxiliary boiler when the handle supported by the flanged bottom section is lifted, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE H AUKER.
