have invented a new and improved Device for Lifting Hot Dishes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

This invention relates toa-new and improved device forv lifting hotdishes'from a stove, oven, or warmer,

so that they may be placed upon a table or tray with the greatest facility, and without danger of burning the hands or ngers. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of my invention.

The handle of the device is composed of two bars, A A, of wood or other suitable ,maternhof hat form, and slightly taper, as shown in g. 1. These hars A A are connected by joints or hingesa a, and a. spiral or othe'x spring, B, is fitted between them, which' spring has a tendency to keep the bars distended in V-forln, Aas shown in iig. 2. I i y i' The bars A A have each ajaw, C, attached, composed of a wire bent so as to have three sides curved-.as shown in the two figures. These jaws, when distended by the spring B, should be of such a length as to Vextend over a plate or any dish or vesseldesi-gned tombe lifted, the rim of the plate or dish lapping over the outer ends of the jaws, as shown in red in liv. 2. The bars A A being then grasped by the operator and compressedthe i pins C C will firmly clutch the plate or other dish, and it may be lifted witlithe greatest facility.

This device may he constructed at a very small cost, so that it will be within the reach of every family, Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure Letters vPatent-- v A devicefor .liftinghot dishes,'compos'ed of the barsA A, connected by hinges or joints a u with a spring, B, placed between them and each bar, having ajaw, C, attached, substantially as shown and described.
