UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- RONALD ROSS, OF BEAVERTON, MICHIGAN.
BAG OR SACK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 768,018, dated August 16, 1904. Application filed April 15, 1903. Renewed January 18, 190e, Serial No- 189,633-. N0 model-l To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RONALD Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaverton, in the county of Gladwin and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag or Sack Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The invention relates particularly to means for securing a bag or sack to a hopper or spout with its mouth in operative relation to the spout end to permit of the bag being readily andsimple construction of the holding or supporting mechanism, as will be fully hereinafter set forth, and illustrated in the drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of the holder applied to the spout. w
The reference-letter Arepresents the discharge end of a hopper or grain-spout, andB is a suitable bag or sack, having its mouth engaged over the spout end and held in place by the supporting mechanism hereinafter set forth.
The holder preferably consists of abracket member 0, consisting of a projecting finger or horn D, and a securing-plate E, which is secured to the lower or discharge end of the spout in the manner indicated.
F represents a pivoted lever carrying a re taining device, preferably in the form of a clip Gr, which upon the actuation of the lever engages the bracket member, over which a fold, as H, of the bag is wrapped and retains the sack in place.
The holder is preferably provided with means for retaining the operating-lever out of engagement with the bracket member 0 when the device is not in use. In this instance I have shown the. holding means in the form of a complementary bracket I, consisting of a securing-plate J and a projecting portion or finger K. Aretaining device L, similar to the clip G, is employed, which being carried by the lever, as shown, engages the bracket I, permitting the bag to be readily applied to or disengaged from the spout.
The parts of the holder as thus described are preferably connected so that the device as an entirety can be readily secured to the spout. The preferable connection is shown in the drawing, wherein the oppositely-projecting bracket members are joined by the intermediate connecting portion M, and a stud or standard 0 projects centrally from the connecting member, to the extremity of which 1 the operating-lever is pivoted. filled; and the invention consists in the novel In practice the retaining device for the lever is preferably in the form of a double clip; but other retaining means may be used that ,will engage the brackets and serve to retain the bag or sack to the lower bracket member in the manner indicated. I do not wish to be limited, therefore, to the particular construction of the holder shown, as my invention embraces the various modifications of which the invention is susceptible.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A bag-holder consisting of two oppositely-projecting bracket members adapted to be attached to a hopper or spout in proximity to its discharge end, an operating-lever pivoted intermediate of the brackets and a double clip carried by the lever adapted upon the actuation of the latter to alternately engage the brackets.
2. A bag-holder, comprising a bracket member adapted to be connected to a discharge spout or hopper, a pivoted lever, a retaining device thereon adapted upon the actuation of the lever to engage the bracket, and means for holding said lever and retaining device out of engagement with the bracket.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RONALD ROSS.
