To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK JOHN GIMBEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Newspaper- Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to newspaper holders, and more particularly to that class of holders in which a light frame-work is provided which is adapted to be easily held in the hand, said frame-work being constructed with a clamping device which will hold the paper in the proper position.

My invention has for its object the construction ofa holder such as the above which is made of especially light material, and which may be easily taken apart and packed in a small space for shipping and storing purposes, it being especially adapted for the mail order business.

Another object of my invention is to provide such a holder as that above described which can be easily and cheaply constructed, but at the same time effective and convenient in use.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically set forth in the annexed claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which,

Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my invention, a part thereof being broken away to show the clamping device. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but with some of the parts removed and others detached from the handle. Fig. 3 is a detail View of one of the side frames. Fig. 1 is a sectional detail view illustrating how the paper is held by the clamp, and Figs. 5 and 6 are views showing different details of my invention.

In carrying my invention into practice I provide a handle 1 of suitable length and formed from any light material such as willow or other light wood. Cross-pieces 2 and 3 of similar material but somewhat smaller in diameter are passed through laterally extending apertures 4 and 5 respectively bored or otherwise formed in said handle 1 in proximity to the opposite ends thereof, said cross-pieces being reinovably held in place by fastening devices 6 and 7. Approximately midway on the handle between the cross-pieces are two members 8 and 9 which are preferably formed of metal, and which are provided with rolled tubular portions for a purpose which will be hereinafter more fully set forth. These two members are clamped together by means of a small bolt or other fastener 10. Side frames 11 and 14 are made with apertures 12, 13, 15 and 16 which coincide with the apertures 4 and 5 in the handle. Light, flexible braces 17 18, 19 and 20 are securely fixed to the side frames by means of screws 21, 22, 23 and 24, said braces being preferably of a tough, fibrous wood which may be easily bent in order that the device may be readily and conveniently assembled, by springing said braces into the tubular portions of the mem bers 8 and 9. At the same time the pliability of these braces renders it possible to tie up my holder in a very small package for transmission through the mail.

The side piece 14: is formed with a longitudinal slot or groove 25 at the upper extremity of which is a pivot pin 26 which carries a clamping rod 27 of such size and shape as to be easily secured or received within the slot. WVhen in closed position said rod is locked by a ring 28 pivotally mounted near the end of the side piece. Means may also be provided whereby my holder may be suitably suspended, said means being shown in the drawings in the form of a ring 29.

As shown in Fig. 4 the clamping rod is received within the fold of the paper A and carries the same into the groove 25 thus ef fectually holding it in position when the ring 28 is passed over the end of the rod.

From the foregoing it is thought that the advantages of my invention will be readily appreciated.

I have provided a device which is very convenient, but which, at the same time is extremely simple to assemble or to take apart.

I desire it to be understood that slight changes in construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to without deviating from the spirit of my invention provided such changes are within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus fully described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, side frames, and braces adapted to removably secure said side frames to said handle.

2. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, side frames, and flexible braces secured to said side frames and adapted to'be detachably connected to said handle.

3. A device of the character described,

comprising a handle, cross-pieces passing through said handle, side frames carried by said cross-pieces, and braces carried by said side frames and adapted to be detachably connected to said handle.

4:. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, tubular members on said handle, side frames, and braces connected to said side frames and adapted to be held by said tubular members.

5. A device of the character described comprising a handle, side frames, means for detachably connecting said side frames to said handle, and means for clamping a paper to one of said side frames.

6. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, tubular members thereon, cross-pieces passed through said handle, side frames carried by said cross pieces, braces fixed to said side frames, said braces being formed of flexible material and adapt- ,ed to enter said tubular members, and a clamping device secured. to one of said side frames.
