Be it known that I, LovELL T. BRENIZER. a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in kitchen-cabinets.

The object of my invention is to provide a kitchen-cabinet of a novel construction adapted to contain flour, meal, dishes, spices, tablelinen, kitchen utensils, and other articles.

My invention provides, further, a novel construction of slidable table and means for supporting the same, combined with the cabinet structure.

My invention provides, further,novel means for extracting the flour and meal from the bins of the cabinet, combined with mechanism for closing the exit-openings of the bins.

Other novel features are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet, showing the slidable table in the closed position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the lower section of the cabinet, showing the table extended. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the upper section, taken through one of the meal-bins. Fig. 4 is an elevation view of the lower end of the flour-bin, showing a sitter attached thereto. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the dotted line 1 b of Fig. 4. Fig. 6is a horizontal sectional view taken on the dotted line a (l of Fig. 3, showing one of the scoops removed.

The cabinet comprises two principal parts the upper section 1, mounted on the lower section 2. The upper section is provided with sides 3 and back 4. It is divided into four principal compartments by means of the three vertical parallel rearwardly-extending partitions 5, 6, and '7. The compartment between the partition 7 and the adjacent side 2 is subdivided into a series of subcompartments by the horizontal partitions 8. In the lower of these subcompartments is placed a drawer 9, adapted to contain knives, forks, spoons, &c. The subcompartments above the drawer 9 are adapted to contain the dishes and are closed by a door 10, hinged, preferably, to the adjacent side 3. Upon the top of the upper subcompartment is provided a horizontal cover 11. The compartments disposed at each side of the partition 6 are adapted to contain different kinds of meal and are provided with a forwardly and downwardly inclined bottom 12. The top board 13 of the lower section serves also as the bottom of section 1. In the upper section, to the rear of the front thereof and in front of the forward side of the partition 6, is provided a transverse partition 14, which extends vertically to a point above the board 13, a space being provided below the said partition 14 for the passage of the meal from the bottom 12 into two horizontal scoops 15, which when in position lie below the com partment formed by the partitions 5 and 7 and the partition 14. The said compartment is closed at the top by a rear-wardly and downwardly inclined board 16. In the said compartment are provided a series of drawers 17, adapted to contain spices. Each scoop 15 is rectangular in form, closed at the front, sides, and bottom, the sides being beveled downwardly from the top. To the partition 14 at its lower end are pivoted at their rear ends two flaps or valves 18, which when the scoops 15 are withdrawn fall to the inclined position. (Indicated in dotted lines in Fig. These flaps serve to prevent the entrance of bugs or mice into the meal-bins when the scoops are withdrawn. \Vhen the scoops are inserted, the inclined rear ends thereof strike against the upwardly-turned forward ends of the flaps 1S and force them to the position indicated in solid lines in Fig. 3that is, upon the top of the scoops-thus permitting the meal to slide forward off the inclined bottom 12 into the scoops 15. A forwardly-inclined cover 19, hinged at its rear end to a transverse board 20 on the top of the section 1, is adapted when closed to cover the two meal-bins at each side of partition 6. A similar cover 21, also hinged at its rear end to the board 20, covers the compartment at the right of the partition 6 as viewed in Fig. 1. The said compartment is closed at its front by a vertical door 22, hinged to the right side 3 of the upper section. In the said compartment is provided a bin 23 for flour, provided with a bottom converging toward the. center, which is provided with a circular horizontal ring 24; at its bottom, above which is provided a horizontal slide 25 for cutting off the flour. The said ringis provided with three horizontal peripheral pins 26, adapted to enter correspondingly-disposed horizontal slots 27 having vertical entrance ends and provided in the upper end of a fiour-sifter 28 of the ordinary pattern. A space is provided below the bin 23 and above the board 13 to receivea pan the lower section 2 upon two vertical strips 30,

disposed at each side of the lower section on the inner sides of the adjacent sides of the section 2. On the inner side of each side of the lower section is provided a horizontal rearwardly-extending strip 31, as shown in Fig. 2, which serves to support the table 29 when it is in the rearward position. (Shown in Fig. 1.) To support the forward end of the table when it is drawn out to the position shown in Fig. 2, two legs or braces 32 are provided. Each brace comprises two parts, the upper of which is pivoted at its upper end to the underside of the forward end of the table by a hinge 33; The lower part of each brace 32 is placed to the rear of the upper part and extends below the lower end of the upper part. The lower end of each brace 32 is provided with a V-shaped notch, adapted when the table is drawn to theposition shown in Fig. 2 tore ceive the beveled upper edge of a transverse strip 35, provided at the lower end and forward part of the lower section 2. The bottom 34 of the lower section is provided at its forward end' at therear of the strip 35 and in place to receive the two braces 32 with vertical holes 36. The forward side of the lower section 2 is provided with two vertical recesses 32 extending from the strip 35 to the table 29 to receive the braces 32. The upper part of each brace is made of a length to fill the recess in which it is placed when the table is in the rearward position. (Shown in Fig. 1.) In such position the braces 32 close the recesses and are flush with the forward side of the lower section. To operate the table, it is but necessary to draw it forward until the braces are in the position indicated in Fig. 2, when the notched lower ends of the braces will rest upon the upper edge of the strip 35. To slide the table backward, the braces are elevated at their rear ends until they are free from the strip 35, at which time the table may be forced to the rearward position, the braces 32 swinging to the vertical positions. (Shown in Fig. 1.) The section 2 may be provided with suitable supporting-legs 37 if desired. Upon the upper side of the table 29 is provided a molding-board 38, slidable on rearwardly-extending horizontal guides 39, disposed, respectively, in longitudinal grooves in the two side edges of the molding-board, the right guide being mounted on the inner side of the right side of the section 2 and the left guide being supported on the under side of the board 13. The lower section may be divided into such compartments as may be desired. In the drawings I have shown at one side two drawers 40, arranged one above the other, which are adapted to contain tablelinen. In the other side may be provided a compartment to receive pots, pans, &c. which compartment may be closed by a door 41, hinged to a vertical strip 12, disposed ,at the left of the right brace 32 and supported by the bottom- 34.

The partition 6 may, if desired, be omitted, thus providing but one meal-bin, in which event but one scoop 15 need be employed, which will fill the space occupied by the two shown in the drawings. For su'cha construction but a single flap obviously would be necessary to close the discharge-opening of the meal-bin.

Various modifications of my invention may be made without departing from its spirit.

Having thus described my invention, what- I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A kitchen-cabinet comprising an upper and lower section, the'top of the lower serving as the bottom of the upper section, the upper section being provided with two verti--' cal rearwardly-extending partitionsdividing the said section into two side compartments one of which is provided with a bin adapted to contain flour and having a discharge-orifice in the bottom having a suitable closure, the other side compartment being subdivided by a plurality of horizontal partitions, both side compartments being open in front and provided each with a door for closing its front, a transverse vertical partition extending from one of said vertical partitions to the other and forming a forward compartment, a series of drawers in said forward compartment, the compartment at the rear of said transverse partition being provided with a forwardly and downwardly sloping bottom a disch arge-openlow the transverse partition and said drawers,

a vertical partition extending rearwardly from said transverse partition to the back of the upper section and dividing the dischargeopening of said rear compartment,- two removable scoops each having an open top and rear end and located in the discharge-opening of the rear compartment one at each side of the partition dividing said rear compartment, and suitable closures for said rear compartment and the side compartment having the flour-bin.

2. A kitchen-cabinet comprising an upper and a lower section the top of one forming the bottom of the other, the upper section being provided with two vertical rearwardlyextending partitions dividing the said section into two side compartments and a central compartment, the central compartment being provided with a vertical transverse partition extending between the two other vertical partitions and being thus divided into a forward and a rear compartment, a series of drawers in the forward compartment, the rear compartment discharging under said transverse partition and said drawers by a discharge-opening leading to the front of the upper section, a vertical partition dividing said discharge-opening and said rear compartment, two scoops provided each with an open top and rear end and located in said dischargeopening at each side of said dividing-partition, two valves opening outwardly in said discharge-opening at each side of the dividingpartition, said valves being opened by the insertion of said scoops, the rear compartment being provided with a forwardly and downwarlly inclined bottom at the rear of said scoops, top closures for the central compartment and one side compartment, closures for the open fronts of both side compartments, the side compartment having the top closure being provided with a bin adapted to contain flour, said bin being provided with a bottom opening and a closure controlling the same, the other side compartment being subdivided into several compartments by a plurality of horizontal partitions.

3. A kitchen-cabinet comprising an upper and a lower section, the top of one forming the bottom of the other, the upper section being provided with two vertical rearwardlyextending partitions and a transverse vertical partition extending from one to the other of said partitions, thus dividing the upper section into two side, one central rear, and one central forward compartments, one side compartment having an open top and front and closures for the same and provided also with a flour-bin having a bottomopening provided with a suitable closure, the rear compartment being provided with an open top having a suitable closure, a forwardly and downwardly inclined bottom, and a dischargeopening leading to the front of the upper section under the transverse partition. suitable means for closing said discharge-opening in the rear compartment, a series of drawers in the forward compartment, a plurality of horizontal partitions dividing the other side compartment, said compartment being provided with an open front having a suitable closure, a slid-able horizontal table in the lower section adapted to be drawn out in advance of the compartments in the upper section, a vertical recess in the lower section, a brace connected at its upper end to the forward end of the table and provided with means for engaging and being supported at its lower end by the lower section when the table is drawn out,

i said brace swinging to a vertical position and closing said recess when the table is retracted, and a molding-board slidably mounted between the table and the top of the lower section and disposed below the compartment provided with the flour-bin.

A'liitCllGIl-Ct binet comprising an upper and a lower section, the upper section being provided with two side compartments, one of which is provided with a flour-bin open at the top and having a hinged cover therefor, the other side compartment being subdivided by a plurality of horizontal partitions, both of said side compartments being open at the front and provided each with a door for closing the front, a central compartment divided into a forward and two rear compartments, the rear compartments having each a discharge-openingextending forward to the front of the upper section under the forward compartment, two removable scoops disposed respectively in said discharge-openings and provided each with an open top and rear end, a plurality of drawers in the forward compartment above said scoops, a hinged cover for the two rear compartments, aslidable horizontal table in the lower section, normally located under the compartments in the upper section and movable forward to a position in advance of said compartments, two recesses in the forward side of the lower section, and two braces hinged at their upper ends to the forward edge of the table and, located respectively in said recesses, the said braces being provided with means for being engaged with and supported by the lower section when the table is withdrawn, the said braces, when the table is retracted swinging to a vertical position and closing said recesses.

5. A kitchen-cabinet comprising an upper and a lower section, the upper section being provided with two side compartments, two rear central, and a central forward compartment, the two rear compartments having each adischarge-opening leading to the front of the upper section under the forward section, a plurality of drawers in the forward compartment above the said discharge-openings, two scoops located respectively in said dischargeopcnings and provided each with an open rear end, the two rear compartments being provided with a forwardly and downwardly inclined bottom, one of the side compartments being provided with a flour-bin having a bottom dischargeopening and an open top, a cover for the open top of the bin and a valve closing the discharge-opening of the bin, two doors closing respectively the open fronts of the two side compartments, a hinged cover for the open upper ends of the two rear compartments, a horizontal table slidably mounted in the lower section, normally disposed under the compartments in the upper section but capable of being withdrawn to a position in advance of said compartments, and means for supporting the table when in the withdrawn position.

6. In a vkitchen-cabinet, the upper section provided with two side compartments, one provided with a flour-bin having an open top, the other having a plurality of horizontal partitions, and an open front, a central forward compartment between the side compartments, two central compartments in the rear of said forward compartment and between the side compartments and provided each with a discharge-opening leading to the front of the section under the forward compartment, two scoops located one in each of said dischargeopenings each scoop being provided with an open rear end, the two rear compartments being provided with a forwardly and downwardly inclined bottom, a cover hinged to the upper section and closing the open upper ends of the rear compartments, a plurality of drawers in the forward compartment over the discharge-openings of the rear compartments, a cover hinged to the upper section and adapted to cover the top of the flour-bin, two doors hinged to the upper section and adapted to close respectively the open fronts of the side compartments, the bottom of the flour-bin being provided with a discharge-opening disposed with a space between it and the bottom of the upper section, and a valve for closing said discharge-opening of the flour-bin.

7. In a kitchen-cabinet, the lower section provided in its front with two vertical recesses, a transverse strip disposed below said recesses, a horizontal slidable table disposed above said vertical recesses,and two braces hinged at their upper ends to the table, provided each with means for being engaged by and supported upon the said transverse strip when the table is withdrawn, and adapted when the table is retracted to swing to a vertical position and close the said recesses respectively.

8. In a kitchen-cabinet, the lower section provided in its front with two vertical recesses, a transverse strip disposed below said recesses, a horizontal slidable table disposed above said recesses, and two braces comprising each an upper part hinged at its upper end to the table, a lower part disposed in the rear of and secured to and extending below the upper part, each lower part being provided with a notch adapted to receive the transverse strip when the table is extended, two holes in the bottom of the lower section in the rear of said recesses respectively and adapted to receive respectively the lower parts of said braces when the table is retracted, the upper parts of said braces being adapted to close said recesses respectively when the table is retracted and the braces swung to a vertical position.

9. A kitchen-cabinet comprising an upper and a lower section, the upper section being provided with two side compartments one having an open front and provided with a flourbin having an open top, a hinged cover for said bin, a door for closing the open front of said side compartment, the other side compartment being provided with a series of horizontal partitions subdividing said compartment into a plurality of smaller compartments, a drawer in one of said smaller compartments, a door for closing the open ends of the other smaller compartments, the flourbin being provided with a discharge-opening in its bottom, a valve controlling the discharge-opening of said bin, a vertical transverse partition extending between the two side compartments and dividing the space between said'compartments into a forward and a rear compartment, a vertical partition dividing the rear compartment into two, each of said two rear compartments being provided with a discharge-opening leading to the front of the upper section below said transverse partition, two scoops located in said discharge-openings of the rear compartments, each scoop being provided with an open rear end, a cover for closing the open upper ends of said rear compartments, a plurality of drawers located in the forward compartment above the said scoops, a horizontal slidable table mounted in the lower section, and when retracted located below the compartments in the upper section, but disposed in advance thereof when in the extended position, the lower section being provided below said table in its front with two vertical recesses, a transverse strip on the lower section below said recesses, and two braces hinged each at its upper end to the table and provided each with means for engaging and being supported by said transverse strip when the table is extended, and located in and adapted to close said vertical recesses respectively when the table is retracted and the braces are swung to a vertical position.
