JESSE EVERIT", OF KNOXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JEROME IV. IIATHJUVAY, OF SAME PLACE.
KITCHEN TABLE AND CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,073, dated January 29, 1889.
Application filed March 16, 1888. Serial No. 267,387. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JESSE EVERITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of lioga and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a CombinedKitchen Table and Cabinet, of which the followi n is a specification.
My combined table and cabinet comprises a body of the shape of aparallelopipedon formed with base-cleats, a floor supported on the basecleats, back, sides having openings in the upper portion thereof, and a front having four openings in the lower portion and three open- :ings in the upper portion, a top extending over said body at the front and sides, a horizontal partition dividing the body beneath the upper openings of the sides and front into lower and upper chambers, three vertical partitions dividing the lower chamber into four con'ipartments, providing three drawer-receptacles and one locker, four vertical partitions subdividing the inner portion of the locker into narrow compartments, four vertical par- 2 5 titions dividing the upper chamber into five compartments providing three drawer-receptacles and two boxreceptacles at the sides, drawers in their receptacles, swinging boxes pivoted at one corner in their receptacles,
having handles extending in front of the cabinet beneath the'top of the table, by which they are opened and closed, and a door for closing the locker, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be fully understoml, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a front elevation of my improved 40 combined table and cabinet. Fig. II isavertical longitudinal section thereof on the line II II, Figs. III and IV, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. Ill isa horizontal section on the line III III, Fig. I, looking in the 5 direction of the arrow, the swinging boxes and a drawer being shown open in dotted lines. Fig. IV is a horizontal section on the line IV IV, Fig. I, looking in the direction. of the arrow, the door of the locker and a drawer be- 5o ing shown open in dotted lines.
1 is the body or cabinet proper, in the form of a parallelopipedon, and 2 the top or table, extending slightly over the body or cabinet proper at the front and sides. The body is formed with base-cleats 3, a floor, I, supported on the base-cleats, a back, 5, the sides 6, (each side having an opening in the upper portion,) and a front, 7, having four openings in the lower portion and three openings in the upper portion. Extending across the body beneath the upper openings is a horizontal partition, 8, forming lower and upper chambers.
9 are vertical partitions dividing the lower chamber into four compartments, providing three drawer-receptacles, 10, and a locker, 11. The locker is subdivided at its inner portion by vertical partitions 12, forming narrow coinpartments 13. The locker is closed by a door, 14, supported by hinges 15 at one side and provided with a latch, 16, engaging a keeper, 7o 17, at the other side.
18 are lower drawers sliding in the receptacles 10, having drawer-pulls 19. Between the top and the horizontal partition are four vertical partitions, 20, dividing the upper chamher into drawer-receptacles 2] and box-receptacles 22.
23 are the upper drawers sliding in the receptacles 92, having drawer-pulls 24.. To the top of the horizontal partition, at the sides and within the box-receptacl es, are hinged, by pivots 25, the swinging boxes 2U,havintheir sides 27 extending in front of the body to provide handles 28, by which the boxes are turned in and out on their pivots.
29 are handles by which the article can be lifted.
The various parts of the article are provided for use as follows: the lower drawers for meal and flour; the compartment portion of the locker for griddles, spiders, and broilers; the outer portion of the locker for pans and tins; the upper drawers for condiments; the swinging boxes for knives and forks and dish-towels. Theswingingboxes26,arranged transversely of the article and extending the full width thereof, are agreat convenience in connection with a combined table and cabinet, for the reason that they extend across the table in a position where they are readily 10o accessible, and provide rece nacles for long articles, such as towels and knives and forks. The handles 01: the boxes, projecting in front oi. the table, provide means b y which they can be quickly opened and closed. without the necessity of grasping the handles, as the latter can be pressed sidcwise in opening and closing.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure b y Letters iratent:
J. A cmnbined kitchen table and cabinet having a swinging box pivoted at the end thereof, extending transversely the width of the table beneath ihc top, and having a handie projecting in front of the cabinet, by which it is swung out and in, substantially as described and shown.
2. A combined kitchen table and cabinet having swinging b(' xes nvoted at the ends thereof, extending transversely the width of the table beneath the top, and having their sides projecting in front of the cabinet, forming handles, by which they are swun out and in, si'ibstantially as described and shown.
