UNITED STATES PATENT GFFTQE.
ALBERT KRAULH, OF HAMILTON, OHIO.
AUTOGRAPHIC REGISTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,268, dated August 2, 1904.
Serial No. 210,336.
(No model.)
To all 7117mm, it may concern:
Be it known that l, ALBERT KRAUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Autographic Registers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement of autographic registers.
One of the objects of my invention is to produce a marginal reducing-plate of an autographic register.
Another object of my invention is to produce an arm-rest.
Another object of the invention is to provide a reversible arm-rest which has a twofold use. One is to extend a support for the arm, the other use being to reduce the size of the opening in the writing-tablet.
The features of my invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specifi- *ation, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the tablet and frame with the extension folded over. Fig. "2 is a section on line :11 a, Fig. '1. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of Fig. 1 with the arm-rest or extension opened out. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the reversible arm-rest. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the ordinary tablet and marginal frame with a modified form of extensible arm-rest.
A represents the ordinary casing of a register.
represents the ordinary marginal frame supported over the tablet and is hinged at its forward end to the frame.
The general features of construction of the paper-rolls and carbon may be of any ordinary construction.
My improvement relates to means for forming an extended sliding support which may be folded over when occasion requires to reduce the exposure of the writing-surface for special work, such as preparing bills of lading, &c.
The extensible and folding device is constructed and attached to the marginal frame in the following manner: 1) represents lugs formed on the extensible support .D. E repa convenient arm-rest.
resents an opening formed in said arm-rest or extension of a size much reduced from the ordinary opening. 0 represents slots in the marginal frame of a size and shape adapted to receive the lugs of the extensible armrest. These lugs 11 are bent to the form shown in Fig. .2 and form hooks to engage with the marginal tablet-frame.
In Figs. 1 and Q the rest is shown folded over on the marginal frame to reduce the size of the exposed writing-surface and also the position of the parts for shipping purposes.
In Fig. 3 the extensible arm-rest is shown turned over and extended outward, forming in the preferred form of construction this folding arm-rest is shown as readily detachable, which is a convenience in many respects.
[t is frequently desirable to cover certain portions of the slip on which the operator is to write, as in invoiccs--say the right-hand ligures on the bill are to be covered--so that the operator does not see the prices, but merely fills in the item of purchase. leaving 1 the selling price to be computed by some other selected person. This reversil )le arm rest when folded over, as shown in Fig. 1, with the reduced opening for writing accomplishes this purpose, and in this position the folded rest forms really the table of the register. In the reversed or open position the extended arm-rest is a very convenient attachment for writing when the entire surface within the marginal frame is exposed. It will be seen that the arm-rest in its folded position coustitutes a second overlying frame detachably secured to the main marginal frame.
Fig. shows a modified form of arm-rest, with dotted lines showing the position of same when folded over for transportation. It is reduced in size and without the center opening and is shown readily detachable. so that the preferred form of arm-rest may be substituted, if desired.
Having described my invention. I claim-- 1. In an autographic register, the writingtablet, the marginal frame over the same, an arm-rest provided with one or more interlocking lugs, openings in the marginal frame corresponding therewith, the said parts being adapted to employ the arm-rest in the extended or folded position, substantially as described.
2. In an autographic register, a Writingtablet and marginal frame, a recess in the marginal frame, an arm-rest having a projecting lug adapted to be engaged and disengaged With the recessed marginal frame,-substantially as described.
8. In an autographic register, a Writingtablet and marginal frame, a marginal frame having a smaller opening forming an exposed Writing-tablet and means for detachably con necting the secondary marginal frame to the first-named frame for contracting or expanding the exposed Writing-surface, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand ALBERT KRAUTH.
