CHRISTIAN JOSEPH SWANK, OF OAKLAND, KANSAS.
RETURN-TlCKET-VOUCHER ENVELOP SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,075, dated July 26, 1904.
Application filed December 24, 1903. Serial No. 186,500. No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN JOSEPH SWANK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oakland, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved ReturnTicket-Voucher Envelop, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in envelope for sealing vouchers designed as a means for securing the issue of a return-trip railway-ticket.
The object of my invention is to provide an envelop particularly adapted for incasing the voucher.
I will describe a return-ticket-voucher envelop embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a sealing-envelop embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the envelop partly open with a voucher therein. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section thereof, showing the envelop sealed.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the front or body of the envelop, having side flaps 2 3. The side flap 2 is provided with a plurality of loops 4:, while the flap 3 is provided with a plurality of loops 5, which are coincident or are designed to engage with the loops 4. These loops are formed by cutting through the paper at the sides of the loops. At one end the body of the envelop is provided with a tongue portion 6, which is here shown of sufiicient length to pass through the several loops when the parts 2 and 3 are folded together and also to fold at its end underneath said parts, as indicated in Fig. 3. At the opposite end is a short tongue 7, designed to pass through the loops at the end adjacent to said tongue and also through a slot 7 in the tongue 6. The tongue 7 will be provided with an adhesive which makes the envelop self-sealing. The front of the body portion of the envelop has printed upon it suitable directions and also a place, as indicated thereon, for the placing of a stamp by the issuing agent. It also has a line upon which the name of the purchaser may be Written, below which is a line on which the date or issue may be written.
The voucher 8, which is designed to be sealed in the envelop, will have printed upon it any suitable instructions.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. For the purpose specified, a voucherholding envelop comprising a body portion, side flaps thereon provided with loops, the loops of one flap beingcoincident with the loops of the other flap, and tongues on the ends of the body for engaging in said loops the said tongues being adapted to interlock one with the other.
2. An envelop for the purpose described, comprising a body portion, side flaps on the body portion provided with coincident loops, a long tongue at one end of the body portion for passing through said loops, and a short tongue at the opposite end for engaging the loops at the adjacent end and to be sealed in place the said long tongue having a slot to receive the short tongue.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN JOSEPH SWANK.
