Description
Patented July 19, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE HENRY DOWNING, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MEANS FOR HOLDING- ACID-BOTTLES IN HAND FIRE-.EXTINGUISHERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,379, dated July 19, 1904.
Application filed November 18, 1902. Renewed December'18,1903, Serial No- 186 ,684. (No model.)
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY DOWN- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Holding Acid Bottles in Hand Fire-Extinguishers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hand fire-extinguishers and to means for holding and firmly securing the acid-bottle in supports pendent from the under side of the cap which seals the apparatus; and to this end my invention consists in certain elements and combinations of elements, fully set forth in this specification and claimed at the end thereof.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may understand, construct, and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, referring to the drawings herewith, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of the upper part of a hand fire-extinguisher and a sectional view of the sealing-cap and acidbottle held in its supporting-wires. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the sealing-cap and bottlesupporting wires opened out, with the bottle in the position it would be on entering it into its supporting-wires. Fig. 3 is a top view of my device.
A is the body of the extinguisher. B is the neck of same, having screw-thread, as usual, upon its exterior surface.
O is the usual screw sealing-cap.
D D are two wires secured in the under side of cap O in loop form, pendent from said cap and fastened to said cap by their ends. These supporting-wires D D are bent to the shape of the outer form of the bottle to beheld in them and at their bottoms are formed curvilinear from the center of the bottle outward to give a firm seat for the bottle at its base in the supports.
To enter the bottle between the wire supports D D, the Wires are sprung apart, as in Fig. 2, and the bottle entered, after which the Wires D D spring together again andhug the bottle and secure it in place firmly, so that no looseness is present, which is an important feature.
Having now fully described my invention and the manner in which I have embodied it, what I claim as new and as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a hand fire-extinguisher the combination with the containing vessel and sealing -cap therefor, of a holder for an acid-bottle, formed by two resilient wires having their ends secured in the said cap, the intermediate portions of the Wires being bent into loops adapted to clamp the bottle between them the lower portions of the loops being formed into supports passing beneath the bottle said supporting portions being outwardly bowed to permit the entry of a bottle endwise and the said loops being so located that they will be sprung apart as a bottle is being entered; substantially as described.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this l ith day of October,
GEORGE HENRY DOWNING. Witnesses:
JAMES M. Hrons, FREDERIO G. SMEDLEY.
