BAKING TOOL FOR ROAD GONSTRUOTION.

UNITED STATES Patented July 5, 1904.
WILLIAM G. VVEGNER, OF LAPORTE, INDIANA.
RAKlNG-TOOL FOR ROAD CQNSTRUOTION.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 764,401, dated July 5, 1904.
Application filed April 21, 1904:.
To all whom it may concern:
stone and other materials.
The invention aims to provide a rakingtool for the purpose set forth consisting of a pair of rakes which can be readily interlocked and separated, so that they can be satisfactorily used together as well as separately.
The invention further aims to construct a raking-tool for road construction which shall be simple in its construction, strong, durable, efficient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter mor e specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout both views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the two members of the tool separated, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the members interlocked.
The tool consists of two members, either of which can be termed a pulling or a pushing member, and for convenience of description the reference character 1 denotes the pushing member and the reference character 2 the pulling member. It will be evident that the term applied to these members can be reversed, so that the member indicated by the reference character 2 will be the pushing member and the member indicated by the reference character 1 the pulling member. Each of the members 1 2 is constructed in the form Serial No. 204.266. (No model.)
of a rake, and they are adapted to interlock with each other, so that the tool can be operated by two persons. The operation of the tool when the members are interlocked is that it is reciprocated by one of the persons pushing the tool toward the other person. The pushing member 1 is provided at the rake end with a hook 3, which is adapted to engage around the rake-bar of the member 2, the latter being provided with a yoke4= at its rake end, through which extend two of the tines of the pushing member 1 when the members are connected together, thereby, in connection with the hook 3, interlocking the two members when the handles of the members are elevated.
From the foregoing construction of rakingtool it will be evident that the objection to tying and untying a pair of rakes when employed in road construction is overcome, and, furthermore, it will be evident that a rakingtool for road construction is set up by which the members can be readily interlocked and separated, so that one of the members can be used as an ordinary rake-tl1at is to sa when the members are separated and when the members are interlocked a combined pushing and pulling rake for road construction is set up.
It is thought that the many advantages of a raking-tool for road construction set forth by the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, can be readily understood, and it will furthermore be evident that changes, variations, and modifications can be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and I therefore do not wish to restrict myself to the details of construction hereinbefore described,
and set forth in the annexed drawings, but
reserve theright to make such changes, variations, and modifications as come properly within the scope of the protection prayed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A raking-tool for road construction, consisting of a pair of rake members, one of which is provided with a yoke and the other of which is provided with a hook, said yoke adapted with a hook, said yoke and hook adapted to to receive a plurality of tines of the member interlock said members.
