TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Bc it known that I, JULIUS DORN, of 'the city, count-y, nud State of New York, have invented a new and4 improved Eye-Glass Attachment; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled iri the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whichi Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improvements.
Figure 2 is a detail view of the same.
Figure 3 is a View of an eye-glass, 'of which mine is on improvement.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improvweuient` in eye-glasses, whereby they nre held in place on the nose firmly and comfortably. v
It consists cinese-pieces, attached to the rim, holding the glasses, in combination with a compound spring, as will be hereinafter more fully setiforth.
A are the glasses, of the ordinary form, connected by an arched spring', B, attached to spring-harrcls b, each of which latter contains a coiled spring, d, as shown in figure. This' spring d exerts its tension against n projection,e, formingpnrt of the rim o of the glasses, whereby the latter are made more generally nflj'ustable to the nose. Nose-pieces mnreattacheil to the inner parts of the rims, as shown, and consist et' nreherl pieces ot' metal, c, or other material, connected by projections 7" a" to the rim, which allows the arch 7c of thc said nose-piece to be of n greater radius of curvature than the rim, whereby they fit the nose better ainl rest more I'irmly thereon.
"his device, in combination with the compound or ilouble spring, ns before shown, enables the glnsscs to he iightly yet firmly held on the nose, and to adjust themselves te this feature in nll persons.
I nin aware that nose-pieces `for this purpose hnvc been meile, but they are used onlywith single arched spring B', and are of a. difcrentshnpe from the ones hereinabove explained, they being simply n metallic arch, springing from the rim and returning to it again by a bent ongle of the sairl nrch, ns shown nit tig. This ferm leaves a sharp nngle at' m, anni often irnpinge unpleasantly 'on the nose, and is incnpnhle, from the employment of a single spring, only of accommodating itself` to the shape of the nose in different persons.
In my improvements, the nose-piece, at its lower cmi, stands'out from the rim, and presents' its surface ot contact more vertically and conformably to the gener-,Ll shape of the said feature. The surface of Contact is corrugated, the better t0 hold with slight pressure. Being simple in construction, they :1re not likely to get out of repair.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patentl The combination of the springs Bd, and rigid nose-piece m, with the eyegluss"es,`as herein described, for
the purpose specified.
