TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
-Be it known that I, JAMES Pumas, of 164 Broadway, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a now'and useful Improvement in Eye-Glasses; and I do hereby'declare that the followin is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference .being had .to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The drawing represents a front elevation of this invention. 7
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of eye-glasses which are connected by a thin steel spring, and which, whon'to be used, are slipped over the nose, where they are held in position by the action of said spring.
Ordinary eye-glasses of this class have but a slender hold on the nose, their point of contact with the nose being reduced to a very small area, and on some noses saideye-glosses cannot be made to stay at all. This difficulty is obviated by the arrangement of two lugsprojecting from the inner edges of said eye-glasses, and formed in such a manner that they increase the bearing surface of the edges of the eye-glasses on the nose, and said eye-glasses can he made to take a firm hold of any nose whatever.
A A represent a pair of eye-glasses which are connected by the spring B. From the inneredges of said eyc glssses project the lugs a a, which are made in such a shape that they increase the bearing surface of the eye-glasses on the nose. i
When placed on the n se, my eyeglasses take a firm hold and are notliahle to drop ofl' spontaneously; they do not produce a pain on the nose, and they can be readily attached to noses of any form or description.
Having thus describe" my invention I claim as new,.and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The nose-pieces a a o". the eye-glasses A A, extending from a point below the centre of the glass to a point above said centre, with g dually increasing width, in order to conform to the anatomy of the nose, as herein shown and described and ii the purpose specified.
