LEAD-PENCIL.
SPECIFICATION forming p art ofv Letters Patent No. 763,429, dated Jullie 28,1904.
Application inta nmh 1o, 1904..
To all lull/0m it may concern:
Beit known that I, CARL voN SCHEMNTTZKY, asuhjcct ot the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing` at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lead-Pencils, ofwhich the following is a specification. A f
My invention relates to lend-pencils with advanceable core, and more especially to that class oi' lead-pencils shown in Letters Patent of the United States No. 7 26,7 67, dated April 28, 1903, in which a hook-shaped elastic, bent, and curvedwire is arranged in a groove parallel to and communicating. with the central bore carrying the graphite core, said elastic wire hook serving to advance the core out of the casing and clamping 1t 1n the desired position. so that it slides not back again'upon use.
The object of my invention is to simplify the construction of the leadpencil and make it more cheap in manufacture.
1n order to make my inventionfullyunderstood, I will now describe it with. refer- 'ence to. the accompanying drawing, in which I have represented the new lead-pencil in e longitudinal sectional elevation.
Into the groove a, parallel to and coinniuf `nicating over its entire length with thecoreserial in. 1257.441. (No man.)
bore b of theca's'ing c, I introduce now la hook 3C (Z, made of wood, horn, libert ebonitc, or like materiaL-whieh is Amore cheap 'in' manufacture and remains betterelastic than the bent e The fore end f of the hook is' made wedge-shaped, so that wire hook `used heretofore.
this part serves to clamp thecore g in the cas;
ing, thegroove arhaving a correspondingly. I vshaped recess on its fore end.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf In a lead-pencil, the combination' of the cas'- ing: having a' longitudinal central `loore and a groove in said casing', a core 'adapted Ato, slide within the said casing-bore, a hook of wood,
orlike material adapted to rest and vjslide within said groove, running parallel to and communicating over its entire length with the, said central bore, a wedge-shaped enlargement on the fore end of the hook and a ofen responding recessjn said groove, substantially;
.as and for the purpose set forth.
In Witness whereof I'have hereunto set'my hand in presence of two Witnesses.'` CARL VON v1'sciininn'i'zint Witnesses: y y I HA'Ns BAPrENnEIM, ALvns'ro HoeUE..
